I plan to come for 3 months again this winter. Do I have to contact the Thai consulate in LA as I have done the last few years? I wrote to the. Two weeks asking for forms and directions but haven’t heard back. Is there someone in the office there I could simply call and see what forms they require now. I want to buy my tickets now. Thanks for an5 contact help you can offer. Jim Hartman, Coloradoone@yahoo.com.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Jim Hartman is inquiring about the need to contact the Thai consulate in Los Angeles for a visa application ahead of his planned 3-month stay in Thailand during winter. Previous experiences prompted him to seek contact assistance, but comments indicate that he can enter Thailand without applying for a visa thanks to the 60-day visa exemption, which can be extended for an additional 30 days for a fee.

Why doesn’t people read the visa section on the website of the Embassy / Consulate, they will apply at.

But you dont need the Embassy for 60 + 30 days

You can just fly here and get a free 60 day visa exempt, no need to apply for a visa.

Just show up and they stamp you for 60 day then you can go to immigration and apply for an extension for 1900baht

It's easy now

You can now enter with 60 day visa exempt. Makes the old 60 day tourist visa extinct. When you have 30 days left you can extend for another 30 days for 90 days total for ฿1900.

I did that in the past but I had to deal with the embassy in California by sending copy of bank account, passport, flight tickets, health records, money and a few other documents. Then they would send me a 60 day visa. I then could extend for an additional 30 days. Did this fo4 about 10 years I think. Are you saying now I just fly to Bangkok without anything done before leaving on my flight? Seems way too easy.

visa exempt entries for Americans and 90+ other nationalities changed from 30 days to 60 days as of mid-July. There is no longer a need for getting a 60 day tourist visa. Just like with 60 day tourist visas, a 60 day visa exempt entry can be extended one time per entry for 30 additional days, thereby giving you 90 days stay. Just show up with your passport. Nothing else needed, although you could always be asked for proof of an onward ticket, proof of funds, or booked accommodations, as has always been the case, but it is highly unlikely for Americans to be asked for this.

Visa excempt, you just book a flight and go.

Don’t need Embassy contact, application, documents.

No. you get a 60 day visa exemption on entry, then a few weeks before the end of that period you go to a local immigration office and apply for a 30 day extension. You need passport, passport photos, a form (which you can get at immigration) and you may need a TM30. Plus ฿1900.
