Hi Everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š my partner (US passport) and I (Swiss passport) will travel to Thailand this month. We plan to stay around 45 days. as we are both from visa exempt countries up to 30 days (but not the entire 45 days), what options do we have?

Will we need to do a visa run after 30 days and can then re-enter for another 2 weeks or can we extend our stay in Thailand?

Also, when we enter the country without visa, will we be asked to show a flight out of Thailand withib that 30 days exempt period?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US passport holder and a Swiss passport holder planning to stay in Thailand for 45 days can initially enter on a visa exemption valid for 30 days, with the option to apply for a 30-day extension at a local immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. If they do not wish to extend, they could do a visa run to re-enter Thailand for an additional period. It is typically unnecessary to show an onward ticket upon arrival, but airlines may require it, so checking with the airline is advisable.

I have the same question. I arrived on a Visa Exemption (Sweden Passport). Can I extend for 30 days, or is there some new rule that makes it only possible for 7 days ?

30 day extension for 1900 baht and an onward ticket for your airline. Check

60 days Tourist visa, that can be extended 30 days.

Apply at:

thaievisa.go.th

Then everything is done from home and no need for onward ticket, or using holiday time to find, go-to, and wait at immigration office.

Cheaper as extending visa extempt.

The "onward flight" requirement is so stupid.

Like, "Yeah, I was totally gonna overstay my visa, and live & work in TH illegally, but they're making me show proof of a 3,000 Baht flight to Laos so I guess I'm not gonna do that anymore".

you seem to think no one does try to stay long term in Thailand as a tourist, or that they should know who is, and who isn't. Why would a real tourist not have a return flight all booked and paid for?

You are eligible for one 30-day extension from your local immigration office once you arrive.

As far as your 2nd question, immigration is very unlikely to ask to see your flight, but you need to check with your airline. If anyone will ask it's them and if they want proof of you leaving Thailand it will need to be within 30 days since that's what you'll receive upon arrival.

If your airline wants proof of onward travel just Google "onward travel ticket" and you can rent a valid plane ticket for about $10-15.
