What is the process for UK expats to obtain a Non-Immigrant O Visa and its extension in Thailand?

My husband and I, from the UK, are expatriating to Thailand, we’ll also be using it as a base for travelling around SE Asia and Australasia. I am 51 years old and my husband is 63, we would both ultimately expect to attain multi-entry Non-Immigrant O Visas, mine as a trailing spouse and his for Retirement. This, we understand is the simplest and cheapest visa option for us.

My question is around the timing of our annual extension date. The only time each year that we can say with some confidence that we would always be in Thailand to present ourselves for our visa extensions is mid-January so it is our current belief that we should try and co-ordinate our 1st 12 month Non O extension to be done on say 18th January 2023. Working back from that we would apply in Thailand for 3 month O Visas to commence 18th November 2022, having arrived in Thailand on Visa exemptions up to 30 days earlier. My Husband would place 800,000 THB in his Bangkok Bank A/C before the beginning of September 2022 and hold it at that balance at least until 18th January 2023.

Will we need health letters from our UK doctors and/or criminal records checks from the UK? We will both be attaining health insurance in Thailand, will it need to have an annual renewal date of 18thJanuary to coincide with the required visa extension date?

Is the above too elaborate and/or incorrect or could our process be simplified please?

TLDR : Answer Summary
UK expats are looking to secure a Non-Immigrant O Visa, one as a trailing spouse and the other for retirement, while planning to align their annual visa extension. They seek clarity on the timing of their visa applications and extensions, the necessity of health letters and criminal record checks, and the optimal funds management for the visa requirements. Contributions suggest applying for Single Entry Non-Immigrant O Visas outside Thailand and clarifying banking and health requirements, highlighting challenges along the way.

I would apply for the visas outside Thailand, then for extensions switch to the 65k+ method so your money isn’t locked up.

Going to immigration is not fun so best to minimize having to do so by getting the “correct” visas before hand.

they'd have to get the first yearly extension using banked money because they wouldn't have 12 previous months of incoming monthly transfers of 65K baht a month into a thai bank account in their name only to apply for the first yearly extension from the 90 day Non-O visas they want.

AFTER they got that first year extension they could start transferring in the 65K baht a month and NEXT year they could use that as the way to show proof of funds.

It's just this first year they can't.

How do I apply for an O visa as a trailing spouse in the UK? I don't see an option on the EVisa website.

800k minimum balance is 2 months before and 3 months after initial 1 yr extension. No health insurance requirements or criminal record checks for Non Imm O, that is for OA.

The process you outline would work for your husband but not for you as a trailing spouse. You need to obtain your Non-O outside of Thailand. As Robert says if you want to be aligned timewise best you both get your initial Non-O outside of Thailand

Make life easy, apply for the Single entry Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age and the Non Immigrant O visa based on being a dependent in September and use them to get 90 days on entry until half Jan 2023.

You have then 30 days time to deposit the money and apply both for the Extensions of Stay.

You can apply on line

Thanks Robert if we are able to apply for extensions on line does that mean we don't necessarily have to be in Thailand in person anyway to do it each year?
