Hello group, my plan is to arrive in Phuket on a 90 day single entry visa & apply for non immigrant O visa. 1.Could anyone confirm whether I apply for the 90 day visa from the Thai Embassy in the UK? 2.Do I need to wait 45 days with 45 remaining to apply for a NI "O" retirement visa? Have googled but trying to understand the process. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on applying for a 90-day single entry visa from the UK and transitioning to a Non-Immigrant O visa upon arriving in Phuket. Key points include clarification on applying for the visa pre-arrival, requirements for proof of funds, and the possibility of applying for a yearly extension after obtaining the Non-O visa.

The only drawback to getting the Non-O visa in your home country is the time you'll have to open a bank account and season the 800k baht for 2 months. Come in on a tourist visa and you have 60+30 days to open an account and get 800k baht into it to apply for the in country Non-O (no seasoning required for the initial application, it just must come from overseas).

Thanks John, do I apply for a 60 day tourist visa from Thai Embassy in UK or visa on arrival?

, with SETV, you will be stamped for 60days and can apply for 30days tourism extension once.

On Visa-exempt scheme, you will be stamped for 30days and can apply for 30days tourism extension once.

Brilliant!

a visa exempt entry will only get you 30 days. Better to get the tourist visa in the UK which will give you 60 days, and can be extended for another 30 if needs be

Or are you wanting to come in on a tourist visa (a single entry one) get stamped in for 60 days then apply in country for the 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office (by meeting the proof of funds for the visa you're applying for) and after you get that 90 day Non-O visa apply for the year extension?

Hi Tod, thanks for the explanation. Will apply for no "O" in Thailand, how many months of Covid 19 travel insurance would I need (I will get annual health insurance after)?

correctly stated you would need to have covid insurance for the length of time you'd get stamped in for when you arrive (so if you enter on a single entry tourist visa you need 60 days covid insurance)

When you apply for the in country Non-O and the subsequent year extension there is no requirement at all that you carry any health insurance.

@Mark ******
think you only need for the length of visa you enter on so 60 days

To do it in country it works like this;

1 - BUY a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in your country before you come here

2 - enter get stamped in for 60 days

3 - Get the bank account and funds transferred in

4 - GO apply for a 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office for 2000baht

5 - Wait the under review period, go back get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in.

6 - Wait until your funds are seasoned in the bank 2 months and you have 30 days or less left on that new 90 day stamp

7 - Apply for the year extension for 1900baht at the immigration office

I think you got your terminology mixed up a bit

IF you are applying for a 90 day Non-O visa from the thai consulate in YOUR country before you wing your way here, when you show up you will be stamped in for 90 days.

THEN depending on the immigration office you can apply for a yearly extension of stay (NOT a new Non-O visa) when you have 30 days or less <- you do need to meet the proof of financial requirements and the seasoning requirements for the funds (2 months before you apply for the extension)
