What should we do if there's an error in our DTV visa application at the Thai Embassy in Madrid?

Hello everyone,

I’d like to ask if anyone here has experience applying for the DTV (Digital Workation Visa) at the Thai Embassy in Madrid.

My boyfriend recently applied for the visa and already paid the €350 fee. However, they later found out that he had entered incorrect information about his name. Now, they are asking him to submit a new visa application.

As far as I understand, if it's just about submitting additional documents or correcting a mistake, we normally don’t need to pay the visa fee again. His visa has not been officially rejected yet, and we’ve contacted the embassy to clarify, as we want to avoid paying twice.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation?

Do we really have to pay another €350 just to fix this error?

Thank you in advance for any advice 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on correcting an error in their boyfriend's DTV visa application at the Thai Embassy in Madrid, where he inaccurately entered his name. They are uncertain whether they need to repay the €350 fee to submit a new application, as the visa has not been officially rejected. Comments provide mixed experiences regarding application errors and fees, with some affirming that the fee is often non-refundable if an application is canceled due to mistakes.

Don’t understand why they would ask for a new application without first telling him the original had been cancelled? Despite whatever garbage they write in their ‘terms and conditions’ they have a duty of care to you as their customer. If you ask your bank/credit card company to perform a ‘chargeback’ they will ask Madrid for an explanation. If they aren’t satisfied or Madrid fail to respond within 30 days you will get your money back. Other applicants have had success doing this.

Nope. Got to pay the 350 again

Read what is mentioned on the official website, the instructions rules are clear

Usually when there are any errors on the application, including names misspelled, incorrect dates, etc, your application will be canceled and you lose the application fee. There is no way to fix the error. What is strange in your situation is that they have not canceled your application yet. Have you logged onto the portal and checked to see if there are any updates?

We’ve been trying to review the application again for the mistake, but unfortunately, nothing has changed. The system only shows that the name is incorrect, but there is no information about a rejection status. However, we’ve decided to proceed with a new application.

From my personal experience applying for visas to Europe — both tourist and cohabitation visas via VFS for Germany and Belgium — they usually inform you of any mistakes or request additional documents without charging an extra fee. That’s why I was confused: if the visa hasn’t been officially rejected yet, why can’t we just correct the information?

After reading posts from others in this group, I now understand that we likely have to start the whole process again from the beginning.

- I can’t answer why they can’t correct the info, but just know that they state that they can’t and if you do supply incorrect info, it will be rejected. As you mentioned, you can see on here, this has happened many times. Best of luck with the next application
