Can I Apply for a Re-Entry Permit While on a Non-O Visa in Thailand?

I turn 50 at the end of January and want to apply for a non O visa based on retirement at Jomtien immigration. I left Thailand earlier this year when I was on an ED visa for almost six months. I have just returned for a few weeks and came in on a 30 day waiver as just here to sort out my condo (owned) before I return to UK for few weeks over Christmas. I was asked by IO when entering at Suvarnabhumi why I had not come in on a visa this time and explained it was just a short trip but would be returning in January on a visa.

I will return on a 60 day single entry tourist visa in the last half of January then plan to go to Jomtien immigration to change this to non O based on retirement on my birthday (30th Jan) with all required documents. Already been to my bank and immigration to clarify what I will need.

Having read some of the latest posts on this page I understand that I am initially granted a 90 day single entry visa and after 45 days I can apply for one year extension.

My question is I have just booked a trip to Australia on 4th March for 11 days. I will then return to Thailand after this trip until early May....will I be able to apply for a re entry permit for this trip? If so, how do I do this and does this mean the 90 day visa continues when I return and I can then apply for one year visa extension around 8th April (if my visa is approved in two week timescale after 30th Jan)? I will not be staying in Thailand permanently so will also need multi entry permits as spend time between Thailand and UK.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to apply for a Non-O visa based on retirement when they turn 50 and is inquiring about the possibility of obtaining a re-entry permit for a trip to Australia after applying for the visa. They aim to return to Thailand for a short duration and want to understand how the re-entry permit will affect their visa validity and extension applications.

if you apply for the Non Immigrant O visa on 30 Jan 2020, it takes 15 days, that means you get the visa in your passport 14 Feb, 90 days of stay, makes it until about 15 May. You can buy a Single Re-Entry permit and make your trip on 4th March, come back and get the same end date about 15 May stamped in your passport. Apply then for the 1 year Extension of Stay, which will be given if you meet all requirements the same day, if stamped in the passport directly apply for the Multiple Re-Entry Permit and you are good to go and come back for 1 year.

about 15 may, i did not count out the days, but you can apply between 30 days and the last day of the Admitted until date you get with the visa.

Brilliant Robert thanks for your response. Is it possible to apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay earlier than 15 May as I was planning to return to UK much earlier in May?
