How does the 90-day reporting requirement in Thailand work when departing with an exit permit?

Can someone advise how the 90 reporting requirement and departing Thailand on a flight with an exit permit before the required reporting day works. I read somewhere that departing obviates reporting and resets the 90 day reporting requirement to another 90 days upon return. Anything one needs to do beyond buying the exit permit?

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, if you have a long-stay visa that requires 90-day reporting, you must report on the 90th day if you intend to stay. However, if you leave the country before your reporting date, upon re-entering, the 90-day countdown resets. This means your new reporting date will be 89 days from when you stamp back in. It's important to note that what is often referred to as an 'exit permit' is actually a 're-entry permit' that serves to keep your current visa status active upon your return.

Just so you're clear

to leave thailand you're not buying an "exit permit" ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

You're buying a permit so you can GET BACK IN (re-entry permit) and keep the stamp you're here on now "alive" so you get stamped back in until that date ๐Ÿ™‚

the 90 day reporting works like this:

If you have a long stay visa/extension (where you do 90 day reporting) and you're here on the 90th day you report..

BUT

If you leave the country BEFORE that date, when you come back and stamp back in the 90 day count down clock starts again. Your next 90 day report is due 89 days from the date you stamped back in. The day you enter is day ONE no matter the time you stamp in ๐Ÿ˜•

Thank you the clear guidance. A question more. Once you return and stamped back in with the re-entry permit, when preparing to make the 90 day report, will one need a 'fresh' TM30 or just the TM.47 is enough?

@Michael *******
that is between you and your immigration office. SOME make you file a new TM30 when you come in from abroad, but some don't, check with them when you get back
