TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported having their tourist visa application for Thailand cancelled twice because they hold a travel document instead of a passport. With a confirmed flight on January 7, 2026, they seek advice on how to proceed. Comments suggest that the user might need a valid passport, and that their current travel document may not be accepted for visa applications. Several users recommend contacting the Thai consulate in Vancouver for assistance, and suggest that the user posts in different visa-related forums for more tailored support.

Cancel the airline ticket, cancel the hotel booking. Wait until you have the correct visa approved. This likely is not the DTV (which is what this group is about)

A canadian travel document without a passport very likey indicates a refugee. A DTV although technically a tourist visa allows much longer residency. I think these two concepts are in conflict.

I'd suggest posting in one of the general visa groups instead as this group is more geared to DTV's... though some of the "experts" or at least people who have a clue are in all the groups. The Vancouver consulate probably won't let you in without an appointment unless you are a Thai citizen and is listed for the holidays. Try Thai Visa Advice Q&A.

Imagine applying to go chill in thailand with a refugee card while your vacation is sponsored by Canadian tax dollar. The audacity....

Anonymous participant 760 Someone can enter Canada as a refugee in the past and be actually employed and a permanent resident in Canada and just not a citizen who’s entitled to a Canadian passport.

Anonymous participant 760 - did he say it was a vacation? Also, how do you know it is paid for by tax dollars? You seem to make a lot of assumptions. Let me guess, you are over 60 white male and spend most your time in Pattaya?

DTV_BegPecker wrong on both assumptions but keep trying. If youre on refugee status chances are you're on government subsidies.

If you have a Refugee Travel Document then they may not issue a DTV on that. You may also be incorrectly filling out your nationality as stated in this eVisa guide

You may also try contacting the consulate

I don’t personally think they’re going to allow you to walk in and ask questions without an appointment.

The DTV application clearly calls for passport details and your ‘travel document’ does not qualify. Get a passport.

Thailand obviously does not allow entry with the type of travel document you are holding. Nobody in this group can help you.

There are technically a few types of travel documents that are allowed, such as a refugee identity card, but there are specific parameters on using it.

- Well, the fact that he references travel documents several times, it is possible that he is part of that 1% who is unable to get a passport and therefore allowed to use a travel document. However, only specific types of travel documents are accepted by the Thai government and you are required to apply for a visa in advance if using one (maybe why he is trying to get a tourist visa). This is why I was asking him which specific type of travel document he was trying to use.

I was pointing out the type of documents Thailand will accept. No need now though as VFS is in Cambodia. I suppose if a Brit list passport in Laos they would have to come to Thailand to apply for new one or to fly home. We now have an Embassy there after quite a break

DTV_BegPecker There are different types of non-passport travel documents such as "Refugee Travel Documents" and ETD (Emergency Travel Documents). I kknow with a British ETD issued in Cambodia, you could get a Thai Visa on it to travel to Thailand and apply for a new passport if lost or stolen. My pal was the British Ambassador in Cambodia and issued them to a family who had passports stolen (No VFS in Cambodia then).
