Hello,

I hope you are well.

I am having some issues with my visa for Thailand in January 2024.

I applied for my E-visa in October but it was rejected as I completed it more than 3 months before my intended date of travel- however I did this as I was not going to be in the UK 1/2 months before.

Myself and my partner are currently in Northern Thailand ; we arrived here on the 2nd November and we are flying to Laos on 17th November.

We are then are travelling to Vietnam / Cambodia / Malaysia.

On the 24th January we have arranged a ferry from Langkawi to Koh Lipe , so will be re-entering Thailand for 51 days, so will need a 60-day visa in place.

I received an email to say that we cannot apply for the Visa online whilst not in the UK.

So, could you please help me on how I go about entering Thailand on the 24th January to Koh Lipe?

Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing visa issues for Thailand as their E-visa application was rejected due to an early application. They plan to re-enter Thailand on January 24, 2024, via Koh Lipe after traveling through Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Community members suggest options such as applying for a tourist visa in neighboring countries, entering on a visa exemption for 30 days, and extending it later. They note various embassy rules and the need for specific documentation depending on the country of application.

Just enter on visa exemption (30 days) and then any time before it runs out go to your local immigration office and get a 30 day extention for 1900 baht each.

I want to go Langkawi to Koh Lipe, I often wonder if that isn't the better way to Koh Lipe.

I recently applied for a tourist visa from the Thai Embassy, USA. They also have a rule about applying only if you are in the USA. There is some fine print and different interpretations. What I have found is they will accept my application regardless of my current location. I have not gotten this tourist visa yet, I applied only 1 week before. But I have gotten a few other visa in the past, while not in USA.

You can pull tourist visa for Thailand in, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia, if you decide to do a legitimate visa. Each place has different rules and I am not current with any. From what I remember, Vietnam was pretty easy, done in one or two days. I would guess Malaysia would be the best place but that largely depends on your itinerary. Each embassy has their own set of requirements as does the border crossing. Malaysia to Thailand (Penang) requires you show cash and maybe you must show Thai Baht, but I am not sure, so you will want to check. Vietnam (HCMC) required I pay in USD crisp new currency, they wouldn't accept torn/tattern/warn USD, again you will want to double check.

Finally, you can get 30 visa on arrival/exempt and you can get an extension. Koh Lipe has an immigration office but I don't know if they do extensions or the requirements.

Enjoy your trip.

Well, I don’t want to be against any FB advice and I don’t give any. Only one thing I can only focus, how many entry stamps you have in this year in your passport?

Nothing is simple in Thailand but love the place

I believe what Brandon is saying is that there must be some form of immigration office on the island or international ferries with passengers would not be able to land there.

Go to Penang and apply for a visa at the embassy there if you need more than 60 days in Thailand (or don't want to leave Koh Lipe to extend a 30 day visa exempt entry)

If you are from the US I think you get 30 days on your passport and then can extend for 30 days; however, I don’t know if that is the same for UK citizens???

You'll either need to apply for a tourist visa in person at one of the embassies in a country you'll be visiting or you can enter Thailand with visa exempt and receive 30 days and then you'll need to apply for a 30 day extension at an immigration office (there are none on Koh Lipe)

thank you so much for your reply. So could I enter Koh Lipe via ferry without getting a passport stamp or anything to say when I entered? And then just get the 30 day extension at an immigration office , at the time I will be in Khao Lak so can visit an office there. Thank you again

@Erin *******
you'll get a stamp when you enter Thailand. It'll be a 30 day visa exempt stamp.

will I get that when entering Koh Lipe via ferry though as there is no immigration port there anymore? Where would I obtain the stamp?

@Erin *******
I was in Koh Lipe a few years ago and there was an immigration counter there when I exited via speedboat to go to Langkawi.

if you enter Thailand without going through immigration it's illegal. Whether you have a visa or not it's illegal. I don't know where you'd get it but there must be an immigration somewhere or else there wouldn't be a way to cross the international border.

okay thank you. May have to look at flying into somewhere in Thailand and getting the ferry to Koh Lipe rather than getting the ferry straight there.

no you don't have to fly. When you depart Langkawi the ferry company keeps your passport and hands them to immigration when you land on Lipe. You then get called up and stamped in. Sometimes the office will allow the 30 day extensions other times you just go to Satun.
