TLDR : Answer Summary
If your retirement visa has expired in Thailand, you have a few options. You can either renew your visa by paying a fine of 15,000 baht and showing that you have the required funds in your Thai bank account, or you can exit the country and clear your overstay at the border. Be cautious, as overspending could lead to being banned from re-entering Thailand for five years, so it's advisable to address the situation before immigration catches you. Several community members suggest renewing your visa, especially if you have the necessary funds, to avoid complications in the future.

You can renew it if there is money in your bank last 2 months and before your visa expires around 40 days

I assume you retired in Thailand to save money. You should've been able to do that. I actually make money by being here as compared to the US. Some things I just can't get my mind around.

Elite visa is not available to people who’ve overstayed more than 3 days in the past 7 years.

No, if you not extend a 1 year extension (of e.g 5 with the cheapest Thai Elite), then you have the same problem.

Our tourist visa expires December 19th and our flight to Melbourne is 25th December

Are we best leaving Thailand before and reentry or just pay 6 days overstay fees ,

Just don’t want to jeopardise our return next year

best not to get a overstay in your passport as you never now your future plans and if caught in the 6 days consequences not good.

You should be able to extend your stay legally just use search function in this group or post separate questions.

Best of luck.

Hi Darren we have 60day tourist which is due for renewal November 22nd which gives us another 30 days until December 22nd but we don’t fly out until December 27th .

I thought you could only get 1 x 30 day extension

Thanks for the reply as will check at immigration next week 👍

You hit the maximum fine at 40 days overstay. But as suggested above, go renew your visa and pay the fine. Or exit and pay the fine. Have fun! It’s Thailand 🇹🇭

It's pretty simple. If you have your Thai bank account with your bt800,000 in it for a few months, just get your bank letters, go to immigration, pay your bt15,000 fine, and apply for a new one. If you can't do that then you'll need to leave the country, pay your fine, and start over. Be aware though that if you are caught for overstaying before you go to immigration, or leave the country, you will be arrested, fined, banned from the country for 5 years, and deported at your expense, sitting in jail until you pay.
