Hi everyone. I’ve just had my DTV visa rejected and wondering if anyone has any tips for getting this thing approved.
Back story to help:
I first applied in Shanghai at the Thai embassy on Jan 18 2026. After almost 70 days of waiting and countless times of being asked for documents I don’t have (such as Chinese social insurance - impossible to get) as well as being asked to upload the same documents repeatedly. I eventually decided to cancel that application.
That was on March 27. Since there is no cancelation channel on the application site, they told me to submit a signed request. I did, then asked for cancellation confirmation - silence. Followed up- silence. Today (April 15) that is still not cancelled and has been 87 days since the application date and “pending document check”
Anyway, I reached out to an agency who helped with my partners DTV. They said to fly to Hanoi and apply there. I did. I’m in Hanoi now. Rejection came today after 1 week.
I don’t really understand why.
My bank account has significantly more than the required 500k baht.
I am self employed- showed company registration cert from Hong Kong (where my business is registered) , signifiant controller docs, share allocations etc,
I submitted 1 personal bank account, 1 company bank account, transactions over a certain period, cover letter and all that. I don’t make any money in Thailand or from Thailand which was clearly stated. Nothing was fabricated in my application and I genuinely believe my application was strong. Yet for some reason was rejected.
The agent told me it may be the embassy here in Hanoi - that they sometimes hit limits on what visas they can approve over a period and that even a “perfect” application can get rejected at times.
They’ve suggested going to Ho Chi Minh City and applying from there stating they have faster processing times and are generally easier to work with but also ask for more documentation (which is fine)
Anyone else been in a similar position? Any insight would be helpful because I’m at a loss as to why it was rejected tbh.
TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their experience of having their DTV visa application rejected in Hanoi after a long and frustrating process, including a prior application in China that is still pending. Despite submitting ample documentation proving financial stability and business ownership, they are puzzled by the rejection and seek advice on how to proceed. Community members offer varying insights, suggesting possible reasons for the rejection, including the pending application in China, and provide recommendations on reapplying, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City or Laos.
No surprise . Coz the rejection rate is super high at the moment in China. Too many applications, 99% meet the requirements so they only can approve a few of them .
Sure I know these are options. I run a very busy and time consuming company though and would prefer to exhaust options that don’t require me to attend classes and things like that during the day
Anonymous participant do you have to go in person to the consulate in Australia? I did my dtv completely online through the website of thai embassy in portugal. I just did an application and that's it. I got email with electronic visa within 5-6 weeks.
I don’t believe so. I haven’t applied from inside Australia. I thought this entire application was mostly online although I’ve learned that in Laos you can do in person interviews
Anonymous participant please advise what passport did you use in Hanoi Thai Embassy application? Because Hanoi Thai Embassy very sensitive for some regions and nationalities.
I believe an Australian passport should work well if there is no pending application placed under it before
Anonymous participant email the Home nation Thai embassy with questions and advise I have found them very helpful and give you correct advise and facts ! Be warned of the Facebook keyboard warriors lol 😂
I'm not surprised it was rejected if you still have an open application elsewhere. In my view your going to have to wait until that Chinese application closes
Yeah bit of a nightmare. I was in China at the time for a few months. Should never have tried to do anything through them.
At one point on a call the women just stopped speaking English and I asked her to stop speaking Chinese as I couldn’t understand and she replied “no”. I asked why. “Because”
Literally never had an experience like that in my life
Because Hanoi is a very poor choice if you already have a history of visa rejections or unfinished visa application but paid and pending. They rarely give a second chance or approve applications in such cases.
Anonymous participant if you apply and paid visa fee and did not satisfied all requirements and request from Thai embassy they rejected your visa application.
After payment for government fee there is only 3 possible ways
Approved DTV Visa request
Rejected DTV Visa request
Cancelled due to passport information miss matching
You cannot cancel on your own if you already paid a visa fee
If your old visa application still *check documents or pending approval* you never get any other visa especially from Hanoi Thai Embassy they never accept if they check and found this.
Better you go login old application and check status, only when it's rejected or ( cancel less likely) you can start new application with different location.
So if your story as you told you have records
Any records for Hanoi Thai Embassy is bad records they mostly want clean new Applicants without any background history records.
I definitely satisfy all the requirements. That’s why I’m stumped.
Yeah through the site there is no cancellation. I emailed the embassy and they told me to cancel I should write a letter , date and sign it and send to it them- which I did on March 27.
Basically the original application isn’t rejected. It’s pending and has been that way since Jan 18, 2026.
Whatever documents they requested, I supplied. Sometimes they asked me for things that are impossible for me to get. Things that only a Chinese citizen would get. In those cases I explained that I wasn’t a Chinese citizen and didn’t and couldn’t have those documents. It’s remained pending.
The application in Hanoi was a new application. With no prior rejections .
Documents submitted showed ownership of company, company registration documents etc.
Financially speaking I am a high earner, so there is no issue with proving money.
The only 2 thing I think it could be is:
1. Current pending application in Shanghai
2. That I own the business I work for so there is no employment contract. Rather ownership proof etc.
Form what I understand a lot of people are employed by outside companies and have their company sign a document saying that they can work remotely . This is somewhat different for me
Anonymous participant you are absolutely right these two reasons mostly lead to rejection in Hanoi ( you got two of them at the same time )
Definitely don't apply with Ho Chi Minh they will view the situation differently and you cannot explain to them the truth plus your western nationalities have extra focus especially in Ho Chi Minh Thai Embassy, plus there is almost mandatory for pay slips and agreement.
Hanoi rejected me last week. I’ve saw people getting approved in decent time in HCM. Seems that HCM and Hanoi have switched roles in the past I was told to go to Hanoi over HCM.
