📩 Community Support Request — DTV (Soft Power) Application Rejected
Edit: New update, I was speaking to an agent and he said when they requested for all pages of passport this includes cover to cover of the passport and I missed some pages. 😓 I'm starting a new application now.
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to get some advice from this community.
I recently applied for the DTV visa (Soft Power – Muay Thai) in Bali, Indonesia, and my application was rejected without any reason provided.
Before the rejection, the consulate asked me to submit every page of my passport, which I did, and then shortly after I received the rejection notice.
A bit of background about my situation:
✅ I’ve been traveling in and out of Thailand for the past 1.5 years (many visa runs, which are clearly visible in my passport)
✅ My source of income is rental property, and I submitted:
• 3 months bank statements showing >500,000 THB
• Tenancy agreement + renewal letter
• Stamp certificate
• Quit rent + assessment tax
✅ I previously overstayed 1 day, but I paid the fine at the border
So far, no explanation was given for the rejection, and I’m trying to understand whether:
1. Anyone has had a similar experience applying in Bali
2. My frequent visa runs could have affected the decision or the 1 day overstay
3. It’s worth reapplying there or trying another consulate/online
I’m currently considering speaking to an agency - Belkin Group Indonesia or MPG Bali Visa Agent for guidance, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has gone through something similar especially those applying through Soft Power / Muay Thai.
Any insights, experiences, or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you so much 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat shared their experience having their DTV visa application (Soft Power - Muay Thai) rejected while applying from Bali, Indonesia, without a clear reason. They discussed providing sufficient financial documentation, a history of visa runs, and a previous one-day overstay. The community offered advice and shared similar experiences, discussing factors that might have influenced the rejection, including the importance of submitting all passport pages and the specific course details. The expat is seeking further guidance on whether to reapply and the potential impact of their visa history.
Problem is the only person who really knows why your application was rejected is the person who processed it and they won’t say. You say an agent advised that you’d missed some pages of your passport. Why didn’t the consulate tell you this? If your new application is approved I would ask your bank/credit card company to perform a ‘chargeback’ on your first one. You are entitled to a refund for their lack of customer service.
I applied in Hanoi (softpower cooking class 6month course) and had overstay of 6 days before, so I don't think is the reason but I also had an ED visa for 14 months before (applied for DTV right after) so didn't do border runs.
ia had my overstay during that time as the school did not get the documents on time before extention. The ED language course visa was not my favorite to say lightly as you have to go to immigration often to extend and pay 2000 bath each time (I think it was around 7 visits for 14 months) cannot leave the country without paying for the re-entry permit and potentially be target of immigration at the airport and be asked many questions (in my case in Thai as I studied Thai). If you can get it the DTV is better and cheaper option.
They’re being extra picky with these nowadays because so many people are trying to get them. They’re especially picking with the soft power ones. Things like the 1 day overstay, frequent visa runs although seemingly minor things could be reason enough for them to just reject it. You could also try another consulate. The office in Taiwan was friendly, didn’t ask tons of questions, and granted me and my family our DTVs rather easily. That being said mine was not soft power so that could have been a factor. Anywho, hope it works out for you!
You say visa runs, does that mean you were on a visa or were you using the visa exempt option? Were you in Indonesia before you submitted your application and stayed in Indonesia the entire time? Did you have an Indonesian entry stamp? How long was the Muay Thai class for?
DTV_Begpacker I am surprised they allowed him to stay for 1.5 years of visa exempt. 1 day overstay isn’t a big deal. Many others have got a DTV with an overstay, as long as minimal.
