What can I do to improve my application for a DTV workation visa in Thailand after two rejections?

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all well,

Had a tough time so far applying for a DTV workation. Been rejected twice now from Jakarta while staying in Bali.

1st application (sent 19th of Nov, rejected 1st of December) -

Self admittedly this was my fault, my documents sent were sloppy and probably hard to read through and lacked enough detail to show I was fully committed to the application. I rushed it and I can’t blame them for rejecting it.

I hold my hands up lesson learnt I moved on.

2nd application (sent 8th of January, rejected 28th of January) -

After consulting with a friend that was approved for a workation dtv by the embassy in Jakarta and research via this group, I tried to cover all bases:

Employment contracts, payslips, over 500,000 Baht in a Halifax account seasoned for 3 months, my separate bank account i use for day to day spending, cover letter showing my intent and reason for wanting to live and work in Thailand, a formal letter from my company ensuring I am not working for any Thai based customers/ business entities, all pages of my passport, a company letter confirming their agreement of my working location and it being a fully remote role.

I received a additional documents request ‘‘Please upload one bank statement showing an amount of no less that 500,000 THB’’, although I had already provided them 3 months worth of statements, I sent 3 statements again with the January statement now being updated to the current date, highlighted the end of month amount and the period dates, the next day it was sent for approval.

All of this was formatted and sent correctly from my knowledge (i scanned and read all the information over and over again), the cover letter explained the bank accounts (one bank account with the seasoned money never below their requirements and then a separate account with a smaller sum of money being used for day to day.).

It’s hard to look back now and find the mistake or reason for this second rejection as I simply don’t know what I’m missing or what they dislike about the application.

I could fly and try a different embassy but if my application is rejected here in theory it would be rejected everywhere. so many people have had a positive experience with Jakarta and I was so sure I’d get it this time.

Feeling rather stuck, don’t know where to go and I don’t know what to fix hahaha.

hi John, just a standard current account. Not much activity on this bank account, only used for car finance payments and small subscriptions. That’s why I included the additional bank account with day to day purchases.

I think the more information you give them the more it just complicates the process.. because they want to verify everything you tell then... I would only give them one bank account with 500k as requested, why include another smaller account that they did not ask for. Similar with workaction... I applied in UK and told them I'm unemployed with no income.. can do freelancing as 3d arist and included my portfolio + content creator and included screenshot from my youtube channel which was not even monetized that time and they never asked me for any contracts/company etc. Maybe I was just lucky how easy it was for me when I read some stories here.. but really, sometimes the more information you give them, the more complicated the process will be.

I understand what you mean, it’s finding a balance of including enough information to hit their criteria but also simple enough for them to understand the information. I followed advice from people that were in the same scenario as me, regardless the bank amount was over 500,000 so I still cant see any reason they would not accept it.

Your employer letter needs to specify you are allowed to work in Thailand specifically. Not just remote from anywhere. That was the feedback we got when applying and what they came back to us about.

Anonymous participant 853 hi, yes my employer letter was directly stated only for Thailand. Along with mentioning it was a remote role.

In the border of thailand its like a lotery, many rejected without reason. I could recommend you to use service of visathailand.com, could help you to finally obtain your visa.

A few additional questions: what is your nationality and what previous visas did you have?

Anonymous participant neither of those are issues. Some nationalities are more likely to get rejected, but not UK and tourist visas (you probably mean visa exempt too) are not problematic like some other visas could be.
