Why was my DTV application in Vietnam rejected despite providing all required documents?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I just received the disappointing news that my DTV application was rejected, and I’m honestly shocked and confused. I applied at Hanoi, Vietnam. I applied under the remote worker (DTV) category, provided every single required document, and even went the extra mile to ensure everything was legalized and authenticated—yet still got a rejection with no clear reason** given.

Here’s what I submitted:

Employment Contracts (clearly stating remote work)

Offer Letter from my employer

Employment Certificate (legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in my home country)

Passport Copy of Employer (as proof of legitimacy)

Bank Statements showing 500,000 THB equivalent (well above the requirement)

I triple-checked everything before submitting, yet the rejection email was a generic "your application is rejected." No further explanation.

### My Questions:

1. What exactly went wrong? If I missed something, I’d like to know so I can correct it.

2. Is the DTV process this strict for everyone? Or is there inconsistency in approvals?

3. Has anyone else faced this? Did you appeal/reapply successfully?

I’ve heard of other digital nomads/ remote workers getting approved with similar (or even fewer) documents, so this rejection feels unfair and arbitrary. If Thai immigration wants to attract remote workers, why make the process so opaque and frustrating?

### Next Steps?

- Should I reapply with the same documents?

- Is there a way to appeal or request a detailed rejection reason?

- Would using an agent/lawyer help, even though I did everything correctly?

Has anyone else been through this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. At this point, I’m considering just sticking to visa exemptions/tourist visas, which is a shame because I was ready to commit long-term to Thailand under the DTV.

Rant over. But seriously, Thai immigration—if you reject someone who followed all the rules, at least tell us *why*.

Many get DTV in Vietnam without proof of funds by using an agent. It's known that Thai agent have contact in Vietnam. So it's possible that they want most people to apply there with agent for their bribe money. Airport will ask more questions coming in every time if your application is from Vietnam. Having said that, you are from Myanmar so there is no chance on earth that u'll get a DTV.

there is something called too many documents, Embassies do not care and actually find it to be Red Flag when anyone provide too many extra documents.....also make your documents very clear and straightforward... i have a feeling somewhere in the process the person dealing your application got lost and find the documents confusing... it's not there job to correct... there is no harm to go to embassy and try to talk to them., you can always try to apply again.

Adnan Khairi your last point appears to be the most important

Seems to be a pattern in Hanoi.

I was also rejected the first time in Hanoi and went to the embassy. There is a little counter and someone will come and speak to you and you can ask them the reason and ask them. That’s what I did and then I re applied in Hanoi and was approved

Good advice 👍

Try in Jarakrta

Don't know what country you're from but your nationality or even where you applied will have an effect on if your application is successful

Don't over think it, just reapply somewhere else and keep it moving. Mine was cancelled without reason and I gave zero Fs. Just reapplied elsewhere after a month cooling period and was approved.

That's great to hear. I will try again. Thanks for the encouragement.

Did you show evidence that you were in Hanoi?

ORIGINAL POSTER
@John ******
of course. I went as far as showing my boarding pass, hotel booking, visa stamps, screenshot of my google map indicating my current location.
John *******
@hT**
how did you upload all that? Did you create one PDF or multiple files? You can only upload one document per section. If you were uploading multiple documents back to back every new document uploaded would erase/overwrite any document you uploaded before it.

I've read about a guy who got rejected in Hanoi and he just went to embassy and asked them to try to fix it. Maybe try that?

I know how it feels... As a legitimate remote worker, I thought a rejection was most unlikely and when I really got rejected, it was really disappointing.

I was rejected by HCMC embassy. Talked with an agent and he guided me the necessary adjustments. Applied at Hanoi 3 or 4 days later and approved without any further doc req.

@Zaw ***********
so what extras did the agent tell you to do
Zaw ************
@Paul ********
mostly refining the docs as par the consulates want. Initial application had unnecessary and long explainations due to bank statement issues. The agent said the consulates don't want to think too much. They just want to see what they need and if it doesn't match, they won't do any reasoning nor read the ''so-called'' long cover letter and explaination we attach, before rejecting you. At least that's their words, not mine 😅
Rick ***********
That is absolutely absurd on their part. They are taking a page out of the USA visa application process and denial.
Expat **********
@Rick **********
What US visa allows you to enter the country as a tourist and live there for 5 years ?
Rick ***********
@Expat *********
I'm referring to the fact that people applying for tourist visas or pretty much any kind of visa to the USA are often rejected with no explanation after having paid the fees.

You forgot the most important information - your 6 months worth of payslips.

@Nick ******
your ignorance is wild hahahha. A simple search in this group would give you hundreds of real life cases of certain consulates asking for PAYSLIPS of 3-6 months 😂
Nick *******
Anonymous participant 852 so let me get this straight - the official website for Vietnam doesn’t state it as a requirement so you call me wild? 🤣🤣🤣 you statement of telling him he missed ‘the most important’ information is the only thing that is wild here. Bit like your thousands statement. You keep being you mr/mrs anonymous
Adnan ********
@Nick ******
i agreed this is NOT basic requirement otherwise they would have had separate upload folder to receive with the application time like other dox, but they can definitely ask it to provide after the application is submitted, if they didnt ask from the OP then it is not why they rejected the application......something else cause them to drop it
Nick *******
Adnan Khairi good, sensible answer 👍

Anonymous participant 852 I think so..

When I applied at Hanoi, I put it that 6 mths of payslips

Want more? I know of hundreds if not thousands of people submitting 3-6 months of payslips as the consulate have asked for it

ị-thực-điểm-đến-th from the Vietnam embassy site - you know one of those official sites, rather than a checklist of what someone chose to submit. You’re welcome
Nick *******
Anonymous participant 852 you lost me at 1000’s 🤡 stop talking nonsense - show me an official Thai website that says it is a requirement. I know 5 real people that didn’t have to submit that - including one who applied in Vietnam
Anonymous ******************
@Nick ******
he may have a point. Not that it’s an actual requirement on that specific embassies website, but if you look at those that have been approved in Vietnam, many did in fact provide payslip’s, which I’d imagine would strengthen and help with the application.
Nick *******
Anonymous participant 694 get that but he should say that ie it’s not a requirement on their site but he knows some people that had to submit. Not tell the OP he missed the most important thing!
Anonymous ******************
@Nick ******
that’s part I do agree with you. He should understand that each embassy has different requirements.

go argue with these lawyer then 😂

Despite providing all requested documentation as required, my visa application was rejected. The sole notification was an email stating 'Your visa application has been rejected,' without any additional details.

did you include 6 months worth of pay-slips?

@hT**
They tend to do that. You can try to email them, or apply again.

Try another embassy. Don't get discouraged 💪

Burmise have Non LA visa which is way more easier to get. I don't understand you why you pursuing expensive option. I don't think Thailand wants to attract Burmise on DTV visa.

I don’t know… this whole thing feels like a scam. I followed every rule, paid every fee, jumped through every hoop—only to get a one-line rejection with zero explanation. It’s hard not to think someone’s profiting off these arbitrary denials.

But you’re right. Maybe another consulate will play fair. Either way, I’m keeping all my documents ready in case this was just a shady power play. Appreciate the support.

@hT**
it's not immagration matter it's ministry of foreign affairs that you apply at the Thai consulate. Why is it a scam there have thousands of approvals already. You are just bitter because you were denied. First search in the box here for the embassy you applied. Then look at the documents that they supplied. Yours sounds like minimal documents ered submitted. Also you don't have to get notorized documents it's not necessary. It sounds like they check your documents and think your application is not genuine. Try again in different embassy using soft power. Try with Muay Thai company may cost a little more but you should be ok
