What to do if you need to renew visa/permission to stay but your new passport has not arrived? I’ve been waiting for 8+ weeks for my daughter’s passport - but we need to renew visa by mid-June.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This conversation discusses the challenges faced by individuals in Thailand needing to renew their visa or permission to stay while waiting for a new passport. The main advice revolves around contacting the embassy to expedite the passport process, as without the passport, options for visa renewal are limited. Various commenters provide additional context on potential waiting times for passport renewals through the British Embassy and agents.

they are quoting 11-14 weeks to get a brit passport back and that's if you filed directly with VFS Global <- the company contracted by the Brit Embassy here to do passport renewals. If you used an agent it could take longer.
There are reports though that some people were getting them back in 8 or 9 weeks, but I wouldn't count on it.

Oh well. It is what it is. By the time the extension expires, it will be 13-14 weeks of waiting for the new passport. Hopefully it won’t take too much longer than that.

Ok - here’s another complicating factor… my passport is tied to hers - guardian visa. So I can’t renew without her… I also have 2 passports
then she WILL accrue overstay fines at 500 baht a day 😕

… over to her other passport…
Also, I did see on another forum that somebody was in a similar situation and they paid for an emergency passport - then put new extension is it. That just sounds complicated…

She has another passport (nationality) but that passport expires in October (she’s just that age when 5 year kid passports expire) - any way at all to move the extension over?
bummer, then she's gonna run on overstay if the new passport doesn't get back in time
Sounds like last year they issued the extension only until the passport was expiring? is that right?

Thanks Tod. Totally aware of this. It also takes about 3 weeks just to get the appointment at VFS. There’s a reason why we couldn’t submit the application earlier - the issue now is, what do I do about the visa extension? I’m thinking of applying for an emergency passport. There must be many in this situation
they didn't cancel your passport (cut the corner off yet) did they?

Call your Embassy to speed up the process.
There is not much you can do without the passport.

Ha, it’s the British Embassy. They’re allergic to their citizens. There an online firm that I. Filled it - 10 days and still waiting for a reply. Not sure I’ll ever get a reply. Utterly useless
