TLDR : Answer Summary
If your new passport arrives after your visa has expired, several steps should be followed. First, note that you will incur an overstay fee of 500 THB per day until you resolve the situation. It's advisable to contact your embassy to see if you can retrieve your old passport, which may help clarify your status. Upon receiving your new passport, immediately visit immigration to pay the overstay fine and discuss your options for renewing your visa or extension. Avoid overstaying as this can lead to severe penalties, including possibility of a ban from re-entering Thailand.

Got a new passport + certificate from the embassy + old one Go to the immigration checkpoint in your residential area. Overdue visa received Must pay a fine of 500 baht per day, maximum 20,000 baht, after which you must fly out of the country. /Check to visa run to Cambodia

Do not overstay !

Fix the problem before it becomes a problem.

Ask for information, best in writing, about when the new passport will arrive.

Go and show this at the immigration office, and tell them your predicament, and find a solution in cooperation with the Immigration.

Once your passport expires, so does your visa. It's THB 500 fine per day up to 90 days. Maximum fine is THB 20 000. If you stay over 90 days you will get a year ban.

You can also get a ban if you are asked to produce your passport/Visa at a checkpoint and are found to be on overstay

this is why you need to pay the fine at Immigration first.

I'm assuming you have waited until your extension of stay or visa is only a couple of weeks away from expiry?? People will say why didn't you plan ahead?? As far as I'm aware, if your current visa or extension of stay has expired, when the new passport arrives, you will then need to go to immigration to pay the overstay fine of ฿500 a day, and then renew your visa or extension of stay, If my comment is incorrect, hopefully someone will correct me.
