Hi all, I lost my passport while extending my 60 day visa on the 4th Jan at jontien immigration.. I've ordered a new one and I'm on overstay waiting for it to come. What is best course of action for me as soon as it comes ? I was thinking bangkok- Kuala Lumpur same day bounce. Would be helpful if I could get it extended again in jontien.

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user lost their passport while extending their 60-day visa and is currently on overstay. They are waiting for a new passport and are considering a quick trip to Kuala Lumpur to reset their visa status. Community feedback suggests that instead of trying to extend again in Thailand, it may be more beneficial to exit the country and re-enter with a new 30-day visa exempt entry stamp, which can also be extended. They should ensure they follow proper immigration steps and be prepared to pay any overstay fines at the border.

Update for the OP..

For clarification..just received from Ron Angel:

"You cannot obtain an Emergency travel document in Thailand to leave and come back unless you had originally had a Non O visa.

He had a tourist visa. Myself, the agent and the link on the British UK government website told him"

So the OP must wait until his new UK passport is issued before he can do a border run, pay up to a 20,000 Thai baht fine at the border or airport, and return by land entry IMHO.

A new UK passport takes up to 6 weeks to obtain.

Mark you have good advice...I suggest you do as
@Tod ********
suggests.

And as I suggested in my earlier reply, do NOT FLY into Thailand. Use border land entries.

Plus I suggest you get the CORRECT visa for your extended stay in Thailand. Work is not allowed under a Tourist Visa. Enough said about the Harbor.

Good Luck..

Commenting Closed.

okay you've got some terminology mixed up

In order to get a 30 day extension (which you get from an immigration office) you will show up with your new passport, police report etc and they will charge you overstay from the expiration date of your previous entry stamp THEN charge you 1900baht and give you what ever is remaining on the 30 day extension (after they deduct the overstay days). <- so you're only gonna get what's left of the 30 days AFTER the overstay days are deducted.

You're far better going to a border, stamping out of the country on the new passport, paying the overstay fine, then re-entering the country on a NEW 30 day visa exempt entry stamp (which you can also extend for 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht).

What kind of visa did you have in your lost passport?

Yes
@James *******
that was the sticking point. That's why I'm asking what my options are when the passport arrives.

As we chat this early Friday morning, realize that I am brainstorming your situation. Awaiting added input from others that can add helpful suggestions.

Ron Angel is from the UK. He and others will have good suggestions.

Bottom line you need a solution QUICKLY.

Amornrat will reply as will other Admin Team members in the morning

Do NOT FLY into Thailand with your history. Land border crossings are less risky of being denied entry.
James ********
You could have used the Emergency Passport to do a border run which would have given you 30 days stay in Thailand.

Lets ask
@Amornrat *********
.. Can a UK citizen do a border run using an Emergency Passport?

As its nighttime here in Thailand she will reply ASAP. She is an expert on this.

With your history of living in Pattaya for nearly a year...I would not recommend you apply for a new Tourist Visa as I think you will be questioned upon reentry by Thai Immigration.

Losing a passport and getting a new one no longer fools Thai Immigration.

Your old and new passports will be linked by their computers upon arrival.

Facial recognition software and fingerprinting as well will ID you and your Thai Immigration history.

If as you say you are truly flying back to the UK in Aoril, then do two land border crossing entries. Each will give you 30 days plus added 30.days extension at 1,900 Thai baht each. Total of 4 months and you leave Thailand

How many months were you in Pattaya/Jomtien in 2019 ?
Mark **********
ORIGINAL POSTER
It was the 3rd then. 4th in my passport
James ********
FYI ....January 4 was a Saturday. Jomtien Immigration is closed on Saturdays.

If January 4 was your last day of your 60 days, you are on overstay at 500 Thai baht per day fine.

How many months were you in Thailand in 2019?

They can't say . It took 7 days to get a appointment in bkk to deliver the passport application.. do you mean a emergency travel document ? I was advised you can't leave and return on a ETD . My flight home is April 1st

You could have obtained an Emergency passport from the UK

How long will it be before your new passport will arrive?
