Hello,
Question: I have a US passport and want to renew it in bangkok. If my 30day visa expires while the embassy is processing my passport, will that count as overstaying? Will I get a new visa or some kind of exemption from overstay fees because it was at the embassy?
For context my passport will have less than 6 months of validity after 70ish days, so I want to renew it so I can come back after 60 days and a visa run.
Thanks guys.
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the implications of visa overstay while renewing their US passport at the embassy in Bangkok, specifically if the renewal process extends beyond the expiration of their current visa. The responses clarify that if a current visa stamp expires during the passport renewal, the user will likely face overstay penalties since applicable policies require a valid visa to remain in the country legally. Recommendations include seeking a COVID extension or obtaining a tourist visa from a nearby country before the passport renewal process begins.
