TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about traveling to Thailand for just under 60 days, especially since new regulations may limit Canadians to a 30-day visa. Several comments suggest that the regulation isn't official yet, and users recommend applying for a 60-day tourist visa online as a precaution. Others suggested waiting to see if the rule changes before the trip, and reminded the user that they can also extend a 30-day visa for another 30 days at an immigration office for a fee.
John *******
Extend springs to mind it ain’t rocket science
Michael ********
If the 30 days are in force by then you can go to your nearest immigration office and extend for a further 30 days for 1900 baht.
Dan *************
Thats 9 months away you’ll have time to apply for a visa online.
Michael *******
Just extend another 30 days. Easy. If it implemented 👍
Katrin *******
There is nothing official yet.
Bob **********
Just extend 30 more at immigration
Peter **********
reduction from 60 to 30 has not been approved as yet
Loma ******
By next high season Thailand will be desperate enough to have changed back to 60 days.
Manfred **********
Cheapest solution is to buy a 60d tourist visa online.
Lisa ****************
Buy a cheap ticket to Vietnam or Malaysia, etc. and add another experience to your travels 😊 Then, no problem returning for another 30 day stamp.
Richard ******
In the past it was 30 and you could extend for 30 for 1900baht at immigration office. So you should be good.
Mary ********
You should be fine - even if they do impliment this prior to your arrival - you would still have the option of midway through your trip going to immigration and paying (I think it is 1900 baht / around $81 canadian) for an extension which would take you to your 60 days.
Robert *********
Get the 60 day tourist visa from nearest Thai embassy .

Do 30 days ,go out of the country and back ,get another 30 days
Dani ********
60 day tourist visa or pay for 30 day extension once you get here.
John *********
Just pay the 50 for the 60 day visa.
Baljit *******
They are considering but not final decision yet
Robert ********
If that really happens before you fly, AND the airline doesn’t let you check in without ticket leaving the country before 30 days, you stand aside and buy an onward ticket for about $10, then checkin.

Then you get an extension at the immigration in the 4th week of your stay, making it 60 days.
William **************
The change to 30 days is not set in stone..so right now 60 days ..Thailand will now waffle between the change to 30 days from 60 days till announced in the Royal gazette.
Brian *******
havent changed yet. and you can extend it for about 1900 baht
Ian *********
I would just apply for the tourist visa as early as possible. If it changes they’ll be masses of people trying to get tourist visas and it could take a while.
Jeff *********
Nothings changed yet, and probably won’t 🤞🤞
Dave ********
If when you go it's 30 day visa exemption, this can be extended for another 30 days at a local immigration office for 1900Thb.
Bob *********
Buy a dummy or onward ticket for less than $20 to get a reservation code a few hours before you need to show it. Google will make a list of this for you
Aaron *******
Check e-visa, should still be 60 days.
Ralph *******
Just wait until the change has been confirmed and you know the date from which it is effective. If it turns out it affects you then either change your ticket or get a 60 day tourist visa. You may also be able to get a 30 day extension, in which case your ticket is still useable; to travel into Thailand you can get a temporary onward ticket for about US$14.
Dek ******
It hasn't changed yet
Andrew ********
Does anyone have a link to apply for 60 day tourist visa please ?
Aaron *******
@Andrew *******
Not one link. Apply at Embassy in the country you're in, many can be done online.
Kim *********
@Aaron ******
it's actually only online now with maybe 1 exception
Bosco *******
@Andrew *******
Thai e visa
Graeme ******
Lots can happen or not between now and your trip, don't worry as you get closer to your date I.e. within a month if the rules have changed then just apply for a 60 day single entry tourist visa on the e-visa system, typically takes around a working week to get, then you'll have no issues with your flights or entering thailand
Lisa ***************************
Get a tourist visa before you leave it’s simple and easy online
Benjamin *********
It only changed from 30 to 60 days in July 2024. From what I recall, there were posts/discussion/etc for a few months about it before it was actually implemented
Albert ********
You could always leave the country by air then go back in. Do a weekend in Vietnam or Laos.
Damon *******
@Albert *******
they're cracking down on "visa runs" for regular tourist visas. And the OP is saying that they are concerned the airline won't let them board if the visa is not for the same length as the stay.
Todd *********
@Damon ******
there is no cracking down. It’s how the system works
Damon *******
I just double checked with a friend who is a visa agent and she said while there is no specific limit for air crossings now it is left to the discretion of the immigration officer and based on your travel history to Thailand they can and will refuse you if they feel you are abusing the exemption system.

She also confirmed that there is a crackdown on people they feel are abusing the system. She doesn't know if that is directly because of the changes that have happened the last couple of years or because of the proposed changes but her contacts in immigration have been very clear that they've directed to do more to dissuade abusers.

So, you are apparently correct about the number of trips and I'm correct about the crackdown.
Damon *******
But regardless of their statements that they are cracking down I'm glad the internet statements about number of trips per period is not true.
Damon *******
So we just ignore the actual statements by the Thai government? Got it...
Damon *******
@Todd ********
No and yes. No, there is definitely cracking down. In the past they've been pretty lax about people coming in on visa waivers and going away again for a few days and then coming right back asking for a new visa waiver/exemption. Yes, this enforcement level is how the system is supposed to work. The laws regarding it haven't changed (yet) but the enforcement has increased. Representatives of the Thai government have stated it and members of this group, and others, have noted that enforcement has increased.

"Foreigners can enter Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category for 30 days at one time with a maximum of 3 times in a 6 month period by flight and 2 times a year for overland crossing."

If you plan on traveling on this type of visa you are restricted to how many times you can do it within a set period of time and it can impact future travel to Thailand. If the OP is only planning on doing this single trip this year a visa run could solve the problem of needing a new visa waiver...but it does not solve the onward ticket issue needed to get the visa in the first place. And this is also one of the things that they have been cracking down on according to members of this very group.
Todd *********
@Damon ******
you are unfortunately using both old AND bad information. Changed in 2024.

There is no limit whatsoever on entries by air. Never was. There is now (since 2024) also no limit on land entry. Two was the previous limit. No crackdown. Simply more internet. And more people here learning the hard way. The millions who come in with no issues whatsoever don’t write a long story about it.
Joseph ****
A lot of people are not paying attention to your concern about the airline rule. Par for the course here, unfortunately. Now, while all airlines are supposed to enforce that rule, I only had it happen to me once at check-in. Others do occasionally have to show proof of return/onward tickets, but the odds are greater that you will not.

That said, as others mention, wait to see if this new policy even gets implemented. If it does, either call your airline and pay to modify your ticket or do look up "Onward Ticket," a service just for this purpose. You'll get an e-ticket to show at check-in which will, in actuality, be automatically cancelled shortly after. I believe it costs about $20.
Ste *******
It's not official
Paul ********
Just get a tourist visa when the time comes saves all the hassle
Chad ********
It's not yet approved...it's in the talks...keep looking... Thailand is always changing
Bent *************
They haven’t changed yet
John *********
in this case, remove all doubt by getting a 60 day tourist e-visa. Problem solved.
Bbc *********
Is not comfirm and also nothing to worry about as u already have return ticket and you can always do a visa extension
Simon ********
Get a 60 day tourist visa.
Todd *********
Do nothing. Cross that path when/if the rules change
Tony **********
If I'm not mistaken, this hasn't been voted on by the council ye so I don't believe there is a start date.
Brandon ************
We don't know if or when it will change, as it's still only a proposal.

If it does change before your trip, you can apply for a 60 day tourist visa online before you travel.
