Hello everybody,

so I just got my STV Visa from the Embassy, but I got now 2 problems.

Im flying on the 19 of February and will arrive in Thailand on the 20 of February. My backflight would be on the 19 of May.

1. They made the Visa for me already the day when I apllied and not from the day when I would go. So the visa is now valid from 11 of February until 10 of May. That means I got for 9 days no visa when I would go back, did they make a mistake or is that normal?

2. Me and my girfriend were taking a condo for a half year because it was the minumum time period we have to make the contract(until August) that means when I would leave on the 19 of May my girlfriend would stay in that condo until the contract is over. But now they were mentioning on the visa that my insurance in not covering until the day when the contract ends, but I would go back already in May not August, will that be a problem?

Hope you can follow me. Thanks for the help

Best regards

Josef

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about two main issues regarding their newly issued Special Tourist Visa (STV) for Thailand: first, that the visa validity starts from its issuance date rather than their travel date, which may leave them with no valid visa back into the country; and second, that their health insurance might not cover them for the entire duration of their rental agreement since they plan to leave before the contract ends. Community responses clarify that the visa's validity relates to entry dates and reassures that it isn't a problem, as the 90-day stay officially begins upon entry into Thailand. However, the insurance coverage may pose a problem if it doesn't match the rental duration, even if the return flight is earlier, suggesting Josef ensure compliance with insurance requirements if intending to extend his stay.

Unless it has been changed your 90 days starts the date of issuance... Been there, done that, paid the fine for staying past 90 days...

They issued you the visa already, its not a problem.

Yeah but I guess if I inted to extend my visa I have to extend the insurance aswell. Dont think they will extend it if I got no insurance

@Josef *******
i had a years insurance and when i did my extension they never asked to see a copy, but that was non O not an STV.

Welcome to the wacky world of Thai immigration rules

Actually i dont see why its a problem if you have the return ticket, they could make a note that if you extend you have to provide the insurance when extending

@Josef *******
yes, that will be a problem. Even though your flight shows an earlier return date, your rental shows how long you actually intend to stay, as flights are easily changed, as far as the Thai embassy is concerned concerning your insurance requirement. You will need to be insured as long as your rental contract is valid, as you can theoretically extend your STV visa for a total of 270 days. They do not understand why someone would sign a lease for longer than they intended to stay. That is not logical with as many rentals as are available everywhere.

Kool Breez. In this case, as
@Michael *******
has pointed out, the insurance would only become an issue if he should apply for an extension?

The date on your visa states when it must be used by, not when you must leave Thailand. Your actual 90 days starts on the day you enter Thailand.

The 90 days start when you enter the country. The visa can be used within 90 days of issue.

the validity of the visa is 3 months from when you bought it <- that's how long you have to ENTER the country
