Why do I need two types of insurance for the STV visa to enter Thailand when only one is stated by the consulate?

Hello folks.

Just a quick question. I've got a reply via email from Thai insurance company, where they said that I need 2 kind of insurances in order to enter Thailand. I don't understand why do they say so, because the consulate's website clearly states that only 1 insurance needed. This is really confusing. Please, anyone who recently got an STV visa and could enter Thailand, would you please clarify this issue. Sorry in advance if this was asked before, I can't find information elsewhere.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is confused about the insurance requirements for entering Thailand with an STV visa. They received a response from a Thai insurance company stating that two types of insurance are necessary, while the consulate's website indicates only one is needed. Several comments from other users clarify that for STV and OA OX visas, it is common to require both a general health insurance policy and a separate COVID-specific insurance policy. Others recommend consulting with a Thai visa agent for accurate information and guidance on insurance requirements.

I am only familiar with TR visas, which only require Covid insurance. I know some of the other visas have different insurance requirements.

I don’t know what “short stay” visa is? TR 60?

You tried to book 60 insurance, you mean 60 day?

If you make a post with the visa you are applying for someone can probably give you good advice.

I just have the AXA insurance, its Thai so you know they'll pay up if needed and that was it.

Thought the insurance you get from such as axe was health and includes covid
James ********
@Peter ********
it does but for the STV and OA OX visas needs a second insurance certificate. That's why its best to have a Thai agent...they know this.

Yes.

As email from a Thai insurance company says : "If you are enter Thailand. You will need 2 kind of insurance.

1. Covid Insurance : The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) insurance plans for foreigners travelling to Thailand,

Will be available to purchase at website
************************

2. Health Insurance for Special Tourist Visa (STV)".

Both, Thai consulate and Thai pass are only need a second option(a health insurance). Does anywhere written that applying for an STV visa requires 2 insurances? Just to confirm their , this insurance company, claim. Any official link would be much appreciated.

@Vlad *******
yes. If you enter Thailand by STV, you need the health insurance (inpatient and outpatient)

Even if you don't need one for your visa, it is highly recommended you get both a COVID and a standard health insurance. Unless you want to want to pay a 100,000THB or more hospital bill (or 700,000THB if you need surgery) if you get COVID or hit by a car.

It is very cheap for the protection it provides.
