Hello, so I got my 2-month Thai tourist visa without any issues, only slight issue is it says valid from 19th Oct until 18th Jan even though I specified I arrive on the 1st December so its 10 days short of 2 months, is this normal? Or a mistake from their end. Also, can I extend for another 30 days when I get there or wait until its almost expired?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a 2-month Thai tourist visa that is valid from October 19 to January 18, but they are concerned it may be too short as they plan to arrive on December 1. The discussion clarifies that the visa is actually valid for entry until the stated date, meaning they will receive 60 days of stay upon arrival, which can be extended by another 30 days at immigration before the initial 60 days expire. Therefore, the visa's validity period does not affect their planned stay.

And as the O/P has the answers he need and this topic is going into total other discussions it is time to close it down. Thanks all for your input, be aware that if you give advice it is correct and stay on topic to avoid I close it down.

Yesterday's Entry refusal Saga was a classic example. OP left a lot of info out by choice and also made misleading claims and expected a quick fix answer on a Facebook group. It's these kinds of posts that attract criticism and false answers because of not explaining the real issue properly and there are too many of us that know what's "really" being asked and see right through it.
Robert *******
Sorry, the OP was a friend and asked the question for her friends. I talked with the people who got denied. But I agree a lot of off topic posts came by which I started to delete, some members got angry with that.

Yeah....it's very challenging and take quite a bit of patience I would imagine. My own experience on this particular group and some others is that people don't take the time to read the whole thread of responses before adding their "two cents" to see if an admin has already had the opportunity to reply and give qualified and sound advice. I personally read an entire thread before jumping in if I have anything to add that would help the OP. Thanks again admins for your efforts!!!

We do our best, but as you said we do this on a volunteer basis. We also like to drink a beer, get some food and do something different than watching

Just to make it clear: a Visa is just an entry ticket, valid from the moment it is put in your passport till the Enter Before or Valid Until date on the Visa. Depending on type of Visa on entry you get a NEW stamp in your passport, a Square stamp with date of arrival and an Admitted Until date depending on type of your Visa.

I appreciate this group but it would be a better group if the admins would immediately correct false information given by people who may have good intentions but are misunderstanding the issue and/or giving inaccurate info.

Not only the full details, many times wrong terminoligy. It take many times time to sort out what the real problem is. But what to do, just start deleting all members who try to help but are on the wrong track?

Seeing admin volunteer and many posts dont give the full details to start with or "choose" not to its a difficult request. The correct answer comes eventually.

I guess I should clarify and say "as soon as possible". I understand being an admin of a group is challenging and that you all have other things going on in your life. You ARE appreciated!! :-)

The sticker in your passport says that it's valid until 18 Jan?
James **********
Right. It means you enter on Jan 17, and you'll get sixty days (which can be extended another thirty in the country) from that date. If you enter Jan 19, that sticker is no longer valid, so you'll only be able to enter with a visa exemption stamp (assuming you're from a visa exemption country).

Youve got 3 months to use it and get 60 days in thailand when you do.

The 60 days activates when you arrive. Check that they stamp you correctly before leaving passport control.

Yeah. Says valid from 19th Oct. Valid until 18 Jan. I get there 1st and was planning on doing at least 3 full month's
Robert *******
How can you lose a bit of time? The Visa is valid for three months, so you have three months to enter Thailand and on entry you get 60 days Admitted to Stay. This Admitted to stay can be Extended at Immigration with another 30 days. So if he enter 20 Oct or later but before 18 Jan 2019 he will get these 60 days of stay.
James **********
Does that January date say "valid until" like you typed, or "enter before" like every other one says?
Danny *********
When you arrive on dec 1st, you'll get 60 days. Extendable at immigration with 30 days for 1900thb.
Steve ********
Yes you can extend it before it expires at a local immigration office....I do mine a couple of weeks before and it starts from the date that your 60 day visa expires....cost is 1900 baht.
Joost *********
The visa is valid between those days for entry.
David *******
tjats the dates you must enter by, the duration of stay starts when you enter.
