What are the options and requirements for extending my STV visa in Chiang Mai prior to expiration?

I arrived on the STV visa in November and it expires 14th February. Now looking at my options for extension as I’m in Chiang Mai atm and it seems like the easy option. Anyway, the more I read the more confused I have become. I expected to just turn up and get a 90-day renewal or something. I have property under my name here, insurance for my stay, and the usual stuff like finance etc. I’m just not sure about the rest.

1. Do I need to do it in 2-stages? A 30-day extension before a 60-day Covid extension? If so, how much does each cost?

2. For the Covid extension do I need to show some reason for not leaving?

3. Do I need the release document from the hotel on the test-and-go system?

3. How long in advance can I renew in Chiang Mai? Expiration is 3-weeks away.

4. My insurance is until April 12th and a 90-days stay is up to the 12th May. Should I buy the extra insurance now.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on extension options for their STV visa, which expires in mid-February. They are confused about the extension process, the need for two stages of extension, costs involved, reasons required for the COVID extension, documentation from their hotel, and the timing for renewal. Additionally, the user inquires about insurance coverage until the end of their stay.

Are you referring to an STV (90 days on arrival) or a SETV (60 days on arrival)?

STV 90-days on arrival. Originally thought there were 2 x 90-day extensions possible on it?

What if my property is in Bangkok? Does this mean I have to apply there or will Chiang Mai immigration be okay with this?

Perfect. Not sure what I had been reading. Do you know if it’s possible doing this with 3-weeks still remaining on the current stamp? Or should I wait a bit.

Allan Wilson. You can do it up to 30 days before

yes you can get 2 x 90 day extensions off of that. You’ll need insurance and accommodation details to do so.
