What should I do about my Non-B visa and work permit cancellation as I change schools in Thailand?

I need advise! so I’m on a Non b visa extension and about to change my school, it expires on 30 April but I’ve resigned a month earlier so my current school will be cancelling my WP on 1 April, they said I have to wait 4-7 days but the problem is I’ll have to leave the country the same day I cancel my visa . I’ll have to book my tickets in advance because it gets really expensive if I do last minute.

Is there a chance that we can cancel the visa after a few days of getting the WP cancelled without breaking any rules or regulations? Or any complications on re entry ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to manage their Non-B visa and work permit (WP) cancellation as they prepare to leave Thailand. They are facing timing issues as their WP will be canceled on April 1, and they wish to leave on the same day, but are concerned about the visa rules and potential complications regarding their re-entry to Thailand. Comments suggest that they should aim for an early cancellation of their WP, apply for a 7-day grace period extension after canceling the WP, and ensure that they follow the correct procedures to avoid any overstay issues.

Cancel work permit (1 April)

Go to immigration same or next working day

Cancel your extension

Receive 7-day extension

Leave Thailand within that period

✔ No issues

✔ Clean record

✔ Safe re-entry later

Agree with your school to cancel in advance. Say, last day is 15th, go cancel on 10th, but with cancellation effective on 15th

Your best option is applying for the 7-day visa extension to allow you to wrap up your life here before you leave the country.

You need to cancel your WP first, then go to immigration on the same day with a letter from your employer stating your last working day and the evidence that your WP was cancelled.

If you don’t get this extension your visa is essentially void and you will be on overstay if you don’t leave on the same day of cancellation.

This is how my best friend and many other colleagues have done it after leaving their jobs here in Phuket.

BronzeHummingbird2672 there is no 7 day extension. That is an extension denied stamp that gives you 7 days to leave the country. So you apply for an extension you're not entitled to and if they accept the application you get the stamp, but they're not obliged to accept the application

I understand, but this is the term used by immigration officers in our province. While not an official extension type, it essentially acts as an extension and you are allowed 7 days before you need to leave the country and it is not noted as overstay.

Like I said, it’s the only option OP has if they don’t want to leave on the same day of cancellation,

Your extension of stay becomes invalid the day you stop working and that is also the day you should inform immigration and leave Thailand. If you're employer is cooperative and you haven't yet stopped work you could ask them for a letter stating your last day of employment and cancel both work permit and extension of stay in advance

In some provinces, you can cancel visa before work permit.
