I have a work permit and visa extension for one year. I'm working my last day on the 9th March. After that I'm going sightseeing in Bangkok and Chang Mai. My school have agreed to cancel my work permit on the 20th March. Then I will take a letter to immigration and cancel the visa extension the same day. So I will come back from Bangkok to Hua Hin and then back to Bangkok to fly on the same day. If I didn't return to Hua Hin to cancel my visa extension this would cause me a problem if I returned to Thailand in future?? Does the rule about leaving the same day a work permit is cancelled mean that I can't book a flight for the 21st March?? It feels like there's a lot to be done in one day on the 20th. Any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual has a work permit and visa extension valid for one year but plans to cancel both on March 20th after completing their last working day on March 9th. They are concerned about the requirement to leave Thailand on the same day their work permit is cancelled and are seeking advice on whether they can schedule a flight for March 21st without facing issues for future re-entry to Thailand. Recommendations include considering cancelling the work permit and visa extension a few days earlier to allow for easier travel arrangements.

This is what I thought, I have to leave on that the work permit is cancelled. If I go a few days before the 20th to cancel the work permit and extension it means I have to come back from Bangkok to Hua Hin to do it and then go away again to continue sightseeing. OK will think about both options and decide what to do.

The day you cancel the work permit is also the day you cancel your permitted to stay to work in Thailand. And if your stay is cancelled you have to leave. You already have some extra time from your employer, why not go a few days or week before 20th March to the Ministry of Labor and to the Immigration Office to cancel the Work Permit and Extension of Stay in advance so you have all the time to make travel arrangements.

If you like to wait until the last day, you may apply for a new Extension of Stay, cost 1.900 Thb, this will be not approved and you get 7 days to pack the bags and leave the country.
