What is the process for canceling a work permit and visa in Thailand before leaving the country?

I currently have a work permit and business visa for the last year and 1/2 through a company I recently sold my shares in. The remaining owners of the company plan to close the company soon. But I am not sure of the timetable.

I am aware that if a company doesn’t cancel someone’s work permit and then I leave Thailand without a re-entry permit which effectively cancels my non-b visa. It can flag up on the system and then they will receive a fine.

What is the process to ensure they don’t get this fine when I leave to get a DTV in about 2 weeks. Do they simply need to inform the labour department to cancel my work permit? I want to try and inform them of the process to make it as easy for them to complete. As they are a small company with limited knowledge about these matters.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking for guidance on how to ensure their previous employer cancels their work permit and Non-B visa before leaving Thailand. They plan to leave in about two weeks for a DTV. Comments suggest that the process includes getting a termination letter, visiting the Labor Department to cancel the work permit, and optionally informing Immigration. It's important to cancel the work permit before leaving to avoid fines for the remaining company owners.

If I want to avoid going to immigration can I simply. Get my termination letter dated in the future then go to the labour department to get my work permit cancelled 1 or 2 days before my actual termination date. Then I can simply fly out a day or 2 later on my official termination day?

For example saying my termination date is Nov 14th. Going to labour department on 12th then flying out on 14th without visiting immigration for 7 day extension.

Get a letter from the company stating your last day of work then go and cancel your work permit, take the documentation from the Labour Department along with the letter and go and cancel your Non-B extension of stay. You can do this in advance, otherwise just leave on the day you cancel everything

Simply inform them

1. Bring your work permit to the Labor Department

2. Fill up the form for cancellation

3. Get the copy of the receipt of cancellation

4. If you have time you bring this receipt of cancellation to the immigration that covers your area of responsibility ( as you have only 7 days to leave the country)

5. If no time you can keep the labors cancellation receipt and if needed in future you can present it to the immigration officer, you can fly out of Thailand...(don't get any re entry since your visa is actually deemed cancelled)

there is no 7 days to leave, you must leave by midnight on the date the work permit is cancelled. What happens is you can immediately apply for an extension at immigration which will be denied, and you get a 7 day extension denied stamp to leave the country.
