Hi. I have a work permit valid until November. Then my Non immigrant b visa is valid until February next year.

I will finish working with this company and not renew my work permit.

First question - Do I need to inform labour department to cancel my work permit even if I work until the very last day or it automatically expires?

Second Question - Do I have to leave the country once the work permit expires or I can stay until my non immigrant b ends in February?

Third question - Do I need to cancel my non immigrant b visa by notifying somehow as I plan to apply for a DTV in the future?

Thank you so much

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a work permit that is valid until November and a Non-Immigrant B visa valid until February. They ask if they need to formally cancel their work permit, whether they can stay in the country after the work permit expires, and if they need to cancel their Non-Immigrant B visa for future DTV application purposes. Responses indicate that the work permit must be officially canceled even if it expires, staying in the country after the work permit's expiration is not permitted (as the visa extension is linked to having a valid work permit), and that the Non-Immigrant B visa extension based on employment must also be canceled to avoid conflict with future DTV visa conditions.

First question - Do I need to inform labour department to cancel my work permit even if I work until the very last day or it automatically expires?

-> As a rule, you have to cancel your work permit officially even if it's expired.

Second Question - Do I have to leave the country once the work permit expires or I can stay until my non immigrant b ends in February?

-> No. You are on an extension based on employment (as you have longer than 90 days already) now and it requires you to have a work permit. Your extension gets invalid without a valid WP.

technically, you will be on overstay if you keep staying on your current extension after WP is cancelled.

Third question - Do I need to cancel my non immigrant b visa by notifying somehow as I plan to apply for a DTV in the future?

-> Yes, you have to cancel your extension based on employment officially when your WP is cancelled. Keeping your WP and/or extension based on employment would conflict with DTV's condition, "employment prohibited".

It's too new to know how everything would go under those though.

thank you so much. So I should plan to inform both WP department and Visa Department I will terminate with employer on a set date in November and have a flight prepared to exit that same day to avoid any overstay.

normally if you can get a letter from your employer stating your last day of work, you can go to cancel your work permit and work extension about 1-2 weeks early, giving you time to settle your affairs and not have to rush out of the country on the same day.

thank you so much. Sorry for another question but is it enough I personally inform both with a written letter or do I need to involve the company?

contact the labor department that issued your work permit, to cancel it they need the work permit, they might require your employer present or a letter from the employer stating the final date, then they issue a document saying it’s cancelled, you might be able to do this in advance of your last day, ask them, take that document to immigration to cancel your extension.

Note that when you cancel the stay extension you might have to leave Thailand the same day. If you need some time to get your affairs in order you can fill out a TM7, pay 1900 Baht and you will get a stamp stating that your application for extension of stay is not approved and giving you 7 days to leave the country. The last time I transitioned off a work permit my employer HR went to the Labour Department, cancelled and returned my WP obtaining a receipt then went to immigration and cancelled my stay extension then applied for another stay extension which got me the 7 days to leave. Make sure you get a copy of the WP cancellation document if you think you might want to work here again sometime in the future.
