What Steps Should I Take to Cancel My Non-B Visa and Work Permit Before Leaving Thailand?

Hi there,

I'm on a Non-B extension + work permit valid until 21 Feb 2020, acquired from BOI one stop visa center. My employment will end on the same date as the expiration (21 Feb)

Is there any action needed by me or the company to cancel the visa/work permit, or could I simply fly out on 21 Feb?

Planning to start a new visa process after flying out.

Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To officially cancel your Non-B extension and work permit before your departure on 21 February, you should take the termination paperwork to the immigration office or the BOI one-stop service center. It's essential to cancel your extension of stay as just flying out will not officially cancel it, potentially causing issues in the future. Visit the immigration office a few weeks prior to the expiration date for proper processing.

you need to take the termination paperwork to the immigration office (or in Bangkok to the one stop service center that does BOI visas/work permits) and turn in your work permit and CANCEL your extension of stay.

Stamping out of the country does NOT officially cancel your extension and it will cause you problems down the road.

Go a couple weeks before your last date, the immigration office will cancel your current extension and give you a new stamp that lets you stay until the termination date on the paperwork (which you say is the 21 Feb).

That's how you officially do it

If your new employer is not IEAT neither, they cannot apply at one-stop service center. They need to deal with the labor office and immigration office separately. The timeline of your story sounds tricky.

BOTH of the companies need to collaborate neatly to change your WP and extension without you leaving Thailand.

Not by law, no law stats to cancel them on same day. But one of them is canceled, another is invalid immediately anyway.

Both of your employers are BOI companies?

Your extension and work permit are supposed to be canceled on same day.

hi Tod - related to this. By law - is the onus of cancelling the work permit on the employee or the employer? And what if the employer refuses to provide the termination paperwork in advance or even on the last day of employment (to enable you to cancel the WP)..
