I have a question concerning the under consideration for the extension of stay based on marriage in Chiang Mai. It will be my 2nd yearly extension. At the first extension (of the original visa) I got the under consideration stamp on top of the remaining days on my visa, which was more then 2 months after I applied. Is it the same for the 2nd extension or will the under consideration period end 30 days after I applied.

Iโ€˜m not all the time in Thailand, so I need to plan my travel accordingly.

Thanks in advance for an answer

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for the under consideration stamp during your second marriage visa extension in Chiang Mai typically follows similar guidelines to your first one. When you apply, you generally receive a stamp that extends your current visa expiration by the duration of the under consideration period, which might last around 30 days or potentially longer. It is crucial to plan your travels accordingly, as you will need a new re-entry permit if you intend to leave Thailand during this period. Recommendations include applying for the extension well before your current visa expires to ensure a smoother process.

I always apply about 5 weeks before my marriage visa expires and the stamp to report back is always dated the last week of my current visa, lady from immigration rings on the monday and we head over to get passport stamped next day.

The under consideration time can vary, my last one was 5 weeks and I've had 6 weeks in the past so whatever date they stamp in your passport will be the date you need to return to get the extension stamp.

think the difference in the time like was more to do with how many days you had left on your current stamp when you applied for the year extension and NOT that they vary the number of days they give U/C stamps for. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you applied a week before your current extension would expire it'd be a 5 week u/c (30 days plus that week) and if you applied 2 weeks before it'd be a 6 week u/c (30 days plus 2 weeks)

As a general rule, under consideration stamps are added to your current extension expiration date (because that 30 day under consideration stamp is actually the first month of you new yearly extension)

In Chiang Mai you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your stamp.

So you have to plan it out, and remember if you're leaving during the under consideration period you'd need a new reentry permit (which is only valid for the duration of that stamp)

Is this the same for Bangkok / Cheng Watthana that the 21 day under consideration period starts from the end of the current yearly extension, not from the date of applying for the extension?

nope that one is usually 21 days from the date you apply, BUT the extension year is good until the end of your current stamp when they ink it in
