What is the cheapest way to leave and re-enter Thailand with an approved DTV?

Hi everyone!

I got my DTV approved while being in Thailand. So now i need to leave Thailand and come back.

What do you think is the cheapest way? Knowing that i'm currently based in Hua Hin, and next month i'll be in Koh Phangan. If i can leave and come back the same day, that's the best.

I'll do it either from Hua Hin or Koh Phangan.

Thank you very much 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on the cheapest way to leave Thailand and return on the same day after getting DTV visa approval, while based in Hua Hin and planning to travel to Koh Phangan. The community discusses various options including flights to nearby countries, border runs to Myanmar, and the feasibility of using ground transportation. Suggestions include checking flights to cities like Singapore and Vietnam, utilizing visa agencies for border runs, and traveling by train or coach. There are concerns about the legitimacy of the DTV application process conducted while in Thailand and recommendations for safe travel.

Such long thread for basic stuff.. Open kayak.com website and look for cheapest international two way flight from your nearest airport. End of story

Most comfortable way is to fly from DMK or BKK to Phnom Penh or HCMC and back in a day. I guess the cheapest return tickets are going to be around 3000-4000 baht just for the flight.

Did you apply online in Vietnam? And how long did you stay there from the beginning of your application, until you got confirmed?

Best to check with a visa agent as she will call to the closest border to you and ask them if you can do it in the same day as some borders want you to spend a night there. I did my dtv initial run to Cambodia the same day by using the agent on soi 6 she made sure i could cross and come back right away.

Check flights to the closest cities: Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos. Unless you want to sit on a bus for hours to do a border run.

But as you applied while in Thailand which you’re not suppose to do, I would go up by plane to be safe.

He probably means he applied for it outside Thailand, then entered Thailand on visa exempt or something and checked his email while in Thailand and hey presto his DTV was in his inbox.

i’m not here to argue, bro🤷🏻‍♂️ he applied when he was out of the country and got approved after he came back in.. We’re all wondering if that’s any sort of problem because it does not stay anywhere the specifics of this situation. The application process or State you must be outside of time when you reply, which I am currently and I already applied. I have three weeks for it to get a approved. Otherwise my trip arrives with flights and accommodations already scheduled. Is there anything that prevents me from going to Thailand in three weeks if I’m not approved while I wait for the approval? Then just make a visa run and come back to activate the DTV?

don't be so quick to assume... he would have applied when I was visiting the other country, not from Thailand. Remember you do need to upload a proof of location when doing the application. He might even have visited the Embassy in person if it was before they went online.

It does not say that you are required to stay in that country after you applied. If there is a requirement, send me the documentation that proves it and you will have my apology.

I would also like to see the same specified as hundreds of people are asking if they can enter Thailand after they have applied because of their flight and other accommodation plans while they’re waiting on their approval. I’m in the United States and applied here, but it may not get approved in time. Where does it state that you can’t travel into Thailand as long as you follow the rules by applying while you were not in Thailand??

It does not state that you have to stay. Most of us westerners are visa exempt and we are not required to present anything as a tourist. It may be safer to stay but not mandatory. You can still go there as a tourist. Let's see what that fellow story is when he gets back in.

that simply means that you’re proving you’re not in Thailand when you apply. We’re asking for where it states that you can’t come into Thailand afterwards?

I sent a driving licence and it got approved. I agree that I would not have taken the risk of coming in before the approval but nothing seems to stop him from entering as a tourist and doing another border run once the DTV is approved. I bet that they will come up with stricter rule soon, this visa is very new.
