Hello! In about a week, my 90 days notice will expire, and since I'm not going back to the same job, I have to leave Thailand. I want to leave and come back the same day (literally just need to leave Thailand, get it stamped that I left, and then come back). What is the easiest, cheapest way to do this and come back in the same day? Thanks!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Thailand is looking for advice on how to leave the country and return on the same day, considering their 90-day notice is expiring. The discussion clarifies that the 90-day notice relates to visa reporting, not duration of stay, and provides suggestions on border runs, possible destinations like southern land borders, and other travel options. Some comments provide insights on the cancellation of work permits and transferring work permits to a new employer.

I see she has all the information she needs about a visa. How to travel and cost of travel is easy to find on other pages. Good luck.

Thank you very much everyone! :)

check with your new school, I think there's a new law that allows you to transfer your permit to a new school instead of having to redo the whole process!

@Tod ********
yes something like that, thank you for clarifying it!

@Zani ********
the work permit would have to have the original employer taken off and then the new employer added to it
Tod *********
there's no new law, people have been able to go from one extension based on employment at one company to another extension based on employment at another company BUT it takes both employers working together to get you the required documentation so you can cancel the one extension from the company you're leaving and immediately apply for a new extension for the company you're going to work for. It's a LOT of coordination and paperwork. AND it's why most employers have you cancel your extension, get a new 30 day visa exempt entry then go get a new visa
Zani *********
You already have a work permit, make sure before you cancel it so you don't have to go through this whole process unnecessarily

You say you're in Surat Thani so why would you fly to bangkok (which is 4 HOURS from the closest border) to bounce out and back in?

You can border bounce at one of the southern land borders OR fly from Surat Thani to Kuala Lumpur and back..

there are no longer any direct flights from Surat to Maylasia unfortunately. Unless they recently started them up again but as far as I know they canceled them for a little while now.

okay now we're getting somewhere. IF you do 90 day reporting (which has nothing to do with how long you can stay IN thailand) it means you are on an extension

AND

to leave the country correctly you need to go cancel your work permit at the dept of labor, then take that receipt and the termination paperwork to the immigration office and cancel your extension of stay.

You can do this a week before the termination date on your paperwork.
Tod *********
You go to the immigration office and they will cancel your current extension and then give you a new stamp that's good until the date on the termination paperwork. THEN you can leave the country with no problems because you have officially canceled your extension of stay.
Tod *********
okay, you're confusing a few things. There is no 90 day notice that expires. :/

Are you talking about the initial entry on a 90 day Non-B visa? <- meaning you have NOT gone to the immigration office and gotten an extension and are still on the first entry from your visa?
Tod *********
@Diane *********
you need to NOT confuse your 90 day reporting receipt <- which has NOTHING to do with you staying in thailand with your extension of stay stamp

Look in your passport and say what the "extension of stay permitted until date is on the EXTENSION OF STAY STAMP which looks like this
Zani *********
Girl, our permits and stamps are valid until June or July 2019 in our passports and yours should be later then that? Please make sure!

@Tod ********
yes that's what I meant, I always forget it's not actually a visa lol.

@Di***
there is no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa :/

IF all you're doing is going to the border, stamping out of thailand, stamping in and out of another country and then right back into Thailand you aren't going to enter on ANY visa. You're going to get in to the country on a 30 day visa exempt entry
Tod *********
Darren Low they are probably wanting to bounce out and back in to get a 30 day visa exempt entry so their new employer can either get the paperwork together for them to go get a NEW 90 day Non-B visa from a thai consulate.

Darren Low 30 day tourist visa, as I will have to do a visa run with them and get a new non b
Tod *********
@Diane *********
that is going to depend on you, where you are and if you're going to go BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate or if you're just going to bounce out and back in to get a visa exempt entry stamp.

ORIGINAL POSTER
ok! So please, what is the easiest and cheapest way to leave the country and come back?
Tod *********
They'll cancel the extension and re-stamp you in until that date.
Tod *********
@Di***
IF that's when your current extension expires "the extension of stay permitted until date" on your extension stamp then yes.

@Tod ********
Ok so the stamp Immigration gives me will only be valid until April 24th? So I still have to leave the country on April 24th?
Tod *********
@Diane *********
right, make sure your termination paperwork says your last day is the date your extension runs out (April 24th) and immigrations will cancel your extension and stamp you in with a new stamp until that date. Then you have officially canceled your extension and can exit the country without any problem..

Just stamping out on the last day of an extension doesn't cancel it officially, you do that at the immigration office BEFORE you leave the country. .

Wow, I did not know I had to do this! Ok so just to make sure I have this right. I cancel my work permit at the department of labor, get the receipt and the termination paperwork, and go to Immigration to cancel my current extension. Then Immigration will give me a new stamp, and I can stay until the date on the stamp?
Tod *********
@Diane *********
then you need to get your termination paperwork and go to the immigration office and cancel your extension before you try to leave the country.

There are some borders that won't let you bounce out and back in until you do actually cancel your extension at the immigration office.

April 24th
Tod *********
@Di***
what is the "extension of stay permitted until" date on the extension stamp in your passport.
Tod *********
@Diane *********
which while interesting has NOT a THING to do with how long of an extension of stay you have.

Darren Low yes!

I've been teaching here, so I have to check in with immigration every 90 days, that's the 90 day notice I meant. And since I'm not continuing with the same school (I got a new job), I have to leave Thailand and come back and start afresh essentially.
