TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shared an update about their successful application for the DTV visa routed through a cooking class, utilizing a two-week option. Commenters congratulated the user and inquired about the visa's validity, the documentation provided by the cooking school, and the financial aspects involved in the application. Discussion touched on concerns about the legitimacy of a five-year visa for a brief course and the possibility of changes to visa regulations, emphasizing the need for proof of funds and the implications for future extensions or re-entries.

Congrat ! And even in soft power you can bring ur family ?

i assume the rules will change and to get an extension or another entry you will need to show another course. a 5 year visa for a 2 week course that can be done on visa exempt just doesnt make sense. but, wait and see!

I suppose we really need to know if a soft visa it looks different to a nomad visa? Or has anything written on it that is different for the immigration to question
Sam *********
i dont think it does but they will know on their system.

I don't think they can do that retroactivly
Sam *********
but maby they really do just want overseas money spent in Thailand, but then i would have expected a higher proof of funds amount. i think this proof of funds will be a constant requirement
Sam *********
but 2 weeks cooking for a 5 year stay seems like something that won't be allowed

immigration can do what they like as far as i know. nobody has said what the requirements are for extension, or re-entry yet.

I've answered this already in the comments here.

Are you interested in Thai cooking, are you actually going to attend the classes?? Or was it just to obtain the visa?? Because there seems to be cheaper alternatives than ฿40k, I saw a muay Thai gym comment on a post yesterday, saying they have a 6 month course for ฿15,000, they claim to have over 30 successful applicants, none rejected so far for the DTV.

Interested? I don't know. I like Thai food and it's required for the DTV for my chosen option, so I'm going to do it to adhere to the terms of the Visa. Muay Thai is not an option for me, but there probably are cheaper options out there for sure.

Did you pay the 40k baht before you applied? And would you lose that money if it wasn’t approved? Also how many months of your bank statement did you show ?

They wanted 500 USD as a deposit at the school, have not looked into the return policy. The embassy wanted last months balance, so I submitted the transactions history from 1. July to like 20 ish of August for that account.

@Terje *********
thank you 🙏 what did the cooking class send you after you paid the 500 USD ?

They sent me an acceptance letter, proof of the company beeing registered I think (that one was in Thai, so can't confirm.) and a picture of the ID of the Director of Administrations of the school.

What you typed above is exactly what they sent you. The DBD(the one all in Thai) document shows they're registered.

And it's still valid for 5 years, right?
