What should DTV holders do when entering Thailand to avoid complications with immigration?

Went through immigration at BKK today. I was just recently approved for a DTV, but I’m leaving in a couple of weeks for a work thing so figured I’d just stamp in under the usual visa waiver/exemption. When the IO scanned my passport the DTV popped up in the system and she asked to see the printout (I had several copies prepared fortunately - thanks guys). She then apologized because it was her first time dealing with a DTV, so she had to get a manager to come over and walk her through the validation process. No biggy, just sharing so other DTV holders aren’t surprised.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience going through immigration in Bangkok with a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), emphasizing the importance of presenting the visa upon entry. Despite attempting to enter under a visa waiver, the immigration officer noticed the DTV approval in the system, leading to a slight delay as the officer was unfamiliar with the DTV process. The post sparked discussions on the necessity of re-entry permits and advice on handling similar situations, highlighting the risks of entering Thailand under a different visa classification after obtaining an eVisa.

and I think we took this as far as we can, IF you have an eVisa, you SHOW it when you stamp in to the country
Wolf ******
Always have the eVisa PDF print-out.

For my year extension for stay, the officer ask me also a copy of the initial eVisa Non O-A and told me to show-up each year with a copy.

This post is extremely helpful. Thankyou. Enjoy Thailand 🇹🇭 🙏

But why choose to try and enter under another method, when you have a DTV with unlimited entries?
Tod *********
@Jon *********
they are leaving the country in about a week for a short trip and were going to just stamp in visa exempt

I wonder why it says “first time used.” Does it matter how many entries are used on the DTV?

@Ryan *******
if it matters it’s not publicly published from what I have seen. I will be going in and out every 2-3 months for work and will post if I have any issues.

@Ryan *******
it means they entered on it the first time. AND the visa is multiple entry so unlimited entry during the validity of the visa (5 years)

But so you can enter and leave Thailand and you don't need to do 180-day extension?

that is the way I understand it yes. I will go to Singapore 13-15 Aug and let the group know what happens when I return though.

from the way I understand it DTV is probably the best long term visa now for the money. Elite is better of course, but at a much steeper price point. The LTR visas are good for 10 years with ME, but the application process is more complex and selective.

DTV really seems the best deal right now if you can snag one.

@마리오 **
you did it in LA, not Seoul?
Sefton ********
@마리오 **
LTR is tax free though for non Thai income.. HUGE advantage.

afaik it’s unlimited. No fees other than the $400 application fee I paid to the consulate in LA.

Did you get a Re entry permit, does a rentry permit need to be used with DTV?
Sefton ********
@Charles *********
5 years multiple entry.. No R-E permit needed.

my initial entry on the DTV. It’s ME though so shouldn’t need a re-entry permit when I leave.

correct ✅

Thanx for the update (y) congrats on the DTV too 🙂

That was SUPER lucky the officer saw you had a DTV..

Just will relate a story, a person had a 6 month METV but they were only going to be here a few days at first so they didn't show it (and it didn't flag in the system when they stamped in) so they came in visa exempt.

THEN a week later they tried to enter on the METV (which was an eVisa like yours) and the officer said that visa was void because they entered on another entry type AFTER they had the visa.

I'm not saying it would do that on a 5 year DTV but that guy was burned for 200 USD because he took a visa exempt entry AFTER he had that eVisa approved for the METV

My advice is always show your eVisas when you stamp in to the country

Was not aware of that.. The implication then is you cannot use a single entry TR as a second entry of a 2 part trip (for example coming for 1 week, going to Cambodia, coming back for 3 months.

Of course now with 60 days entry visa exempt it becomes a bit moot.

@Tod ********
This is consistent with what BOI warns about the LTR visa. They warn that entering on another visa type or visa exempt will void my LTR visa.
