TLDR : Answer Summary
A 77-year-old expat moving to Thailand in June 2026 is seeking health insurance advice. Many community members noted that options are limited for seniors, with high premiums being a major concern. Suggestions include self-insurance as a cost-effective alternative, particularly considering health expenses can be lower than monthly premiums in some cases. Discussions highlighted the challenges of obtaining affordable coverage after age 75, and emphasized the importance of planning earlier for better insurance options. The comment also mentions that insurance is not compulsory for NON-O visa holders.

I’ve had WRlife for five years and made two claims with them. Just make sure you disclose all pre-existing conditions. I pay about 65,000 a year for 7 million baht coverage. I’m 70.

A friend in his late 70s was admitted to Patong Hospital twice in the last 5 years, no health insurance, just paid the bill each time totaling 60,000 baht. Relatively cheap compared with monthly premiums. But, you should always think of the worst case scenario at your age. 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately, at your age you’ll be lucky to get insured, and if you do, it’s going to cost you. The time to get it is before you turn 65 for it to be affordable.

Sorry to say but you’re a bad risk at that age, hence the high premiums.
