Hi everyone. I have a question regarding medical insurance for a retirement visa. does anyone know of an insurance company that will offer coverage for a person over the age of 70 with preexisting conditions at an affordable price. For Thailand only to be paid in Thai baht.

He understands that preexisting conditions won’t be included however some of the insurance companies are very vague about what they will cover, almost a case of submit a claim and then hope for the best. Other companies won’t even give a quote. He also doesn’t want to have to sell a kidney to get insurance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The thread discusses the challenges faced by retirees over the age of 70 in Thailand seeking affordable medical insurance, particularly those with preexisting conditions. Several commenters share their insights, indicating that it may be difficult to find coverage from the 14 approved Thai insurers, as many decline to cover such individuals altogether. Alternatives such as applying for a NON-O visa and then switching to a retirement visa from within Thailand are suggested, along with recommendations for specific brokers and insurance companies. Some participants advise against high premium insurance plans, suggesting that out-of-pocket payments may be more cost-effective in some cases. Overall, the conversation highlights the need for careful consideration of insurance options tailored for seniors moving to Thailand.

I have in-patient only cover for me and my family. I'm 70 and have had it for the last couple years. We pay out of pocket for all out-patient services. I'm counting on the insurance only for worst case scenarios. The cost is the best value I could find at the time. Not the cheapest but OK. PM me for the name of my agent. I don't want to advertise for him here.

Thank you for your feedback, I’ve received the information I needed. Case closed.

Why would you possibly want to spend 10k a month on absolutely nothing ? Because quite frankly that's what you'd be purchasing , he appreciates pre existing will not be included , it's all a giant web of deception , if he/ she " has " to have something , consider it a tax and why the cheapest .

This " friend " would be completely wasting their money either way , best to avoid altogether .

I don’t normally respond to negative comments however, the person I’m talking about is my father.

He has insurance in the country in which he lives however if he leaves that country the insurance will no longer be valid. Hence the reason for needing health insurance. He is not trying to dodge the law etc. He is simply trying to relocate legally to a place where he can have a better life. Sadly money does not grow on trees therefore taking chances with no insurance etc is not an option and quite frankly irresponsible.

If you have it, why worry? It's only a problem if you can't afford it. And of course it depends on what pre existing conditions. Probably everyone over 70 has pre existing conditions, and millions of them are insured.

Which makes the entire concept even more ridiculous, why throw 10 k a month down a drain , it's just a systematic , legal , deception , exactly why Warren Buffett likes buying insurance companies ..complete waste of money .

Avoid altogether if you can , if you can't buy the absolute least expensive .

Don’t get an O-A visa in your home come in and get a non-o and extend that for a year no need for worthless insurance
George *********
Thanks....Yes, I was thinking the same...too serious go back home and get treated
George *********
Thanks...I am 71 so health insurance is very expensive for me...so if in reasonable health you reckon just pay as you go as and when?
Bob **********
@George ********
yes I pay as I go anything really serious I’d go home where I have insurance

@Bob *********
Why do you say the insurance is worthless ?
Robert **********
@George ********
It’s worthless, I investigated thoroughly. Don’t just look at the maximum but look at how much it covers per day in the hospital. The total you would ever use is about equal to your annual premium. You might as well self insure. If you don’t have much money, go to a government hospital. Some people are happy with the lower tier private hospitals, such as Canillian, St. Louis, or Bangkok Christian, if you can get to Bangkok. Outpatient treatment, doctor visits, excess, and most medicines are usually not too expensive.

Your “friend” will likely be denied coverage by all of the 14 approved Thai insurance companies due to pre existing conditions. In my experience they will not offer exclusions, they will simply deny coverage.

Then, you will have to answer the question, “have you ever been denied coverage?”

Better to apply for a Non O extension based on retirement from within Thailand.

Then, you can purchase insurance from any company, anywhere in the world, that will cover your “friend” within Thailand and you don’t have to leave Thailand if your policy gets cancelled or renewal denied.

It's not going to happen so sorry but that's the truth

You would be better to come to Thailand on 60 day visa and then applying for your retirement visa
