TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on health insurance options for seniors aged 75 and 79 for a two-month stay in Thailand. The comments include various suggestions for insurance providers, with some warnings regarding age-related restrictions and high premiums. Recommendations for AXA, Cigna, and AIA are mentioned, along with advice to consider travel insurance from one's home country for better coverage options.

Don’t trust ANY insurance company to honour a major claim at your age

Better to put money aside every month to have an emergency fund in case of ….

A medical emergency ?!?

I’m no expert but the premium at your age will be expensive even if you find a company that will insure you at your age

Up to you

AIA insurance is up to 99 years 👍

@Tore *******
is that renewability age or new policy age?

Renewable. And then also give you the level of yearly annual cost up to 99 years. I checked every company and it was only 2 companies I find acceptable that was Luma and AIA. But Luma was far more expensive. A good solution is to choose AIA health happy with 5 million coverage, and if you get serious sick (cancer, heart etc.) the coverage is 10 million. I choose this and feel very happy and safe with this. You can contact my agent to get an offer:

. AIA and their agent are very serious and well educated people.

@Tore *******
that's what I thought so it wouldn't apply to the couple who are 75 and 79 wanting to buy a new policy.

No, I think Max age for a new insurance is 75 ….. I really think it will be nearly impossible to get a new health insurance at that age. I am now 71 and bought the insurance when I was 69.

I recently priced health insurance for myself 77 years old no pre-existing good health they wanted over $5,000 a year I decided to put that $5,000 in my bank account if I need it I'll have it if I give it to them and I don't use it it's gone that's the way I look at it have a blessed day

Cigna has policy to cover overseas. If you are on Medicare and travel. You have to pay first then submit it. They May reimburse the expenses while traveling.

@Marty ********
Well,these guys are 75 and 79 years old.

@Max ************
Exactly. If you buy when you are young and stay with the company then they will cover you until you are 99 years old. This couple is unlikely to be able to buy adequate income at their age. They should consider whether they can self insure.

@Marty ********
Thats why I said it won't be cheap.But,they should be able to get a travel insurance from back home.
Rob **********
Get travel insurance from your own country if you are looking at 2 months
John ***********
@Rob *********
Exactly. Why would anyone take out a local policy for 2 months, particularly over 70.

Why can't you get a travel insurance from back home?? It will by far be the cheapest option and also more reliable.

A quick check of your main page lists you as being in Ireland if SAGA is available there go for that its a lot better than any product in Thailand. You can get annual cover that allows for trips of 90 days I went for a Policy to the value of 10 million pounds aged 64 1 pre existing condition and the premium was a little under £300
David *********
IMO best to get extended travel insurance for that period of time. Here (and maybe many places) get you 2 ways. No coverage for any pre existing as well as “common illnesses” in your age group. Likely the best you will get is coverage for catastrophic injury caused be accident. Consider putting aside a great deal of money as your backup in needing medical care. That way if nothing happens you still have it. Good luck

Good luck.

I'm 73. Had travel insurance with Faye earlier this year for about 75 days. I specified Thailand but think it covered almost everywhere except US. Think it cost a little over $600. They, and Allianz, have never questioned my age.
David *********
@Ron *******
yes. Age is less of a factor for Travel Insurance. The OP asked about policy
Bob **********
If you got it they would fight you on any claim
Pete *******
Forget it, just have a chunk of money set aside.

At 79, yes.

There are options out there.

Happy to offer support.

usually if you bought in at a younger age already
John **********
Good luck. The majority of health insurance companies in Thailand won't issue a new policy once you hit 75

@John *********
