Hi there,

I need some help for my parents of 76years old retirement visa in Thailand.

Anyone can advise me on the healthcare insurance as my country will cost so much like $15k usd per year with 5k deductible.

Any other ways to let my parents to come over to stay in the most easier and cost savvy way.

My wife and myself will be holding retirement visa.

Thank a million for any advise πŸ™πŸ»

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around finding affordable healthcare insurance for the user's elderly parents seeking retirement visas in Thailand. Several comments suggest exploring insurance options with brokers, noting that many Thai insurance companies are reluctant to cover customers over 75 or those with pre-existing conditions. Recommendations include specific brokers and insurers, emphasizing the challenges elderly newcomers face in obtaining suitable health coverage.

Nick Cheng, my family and I are from Singapore and have been living in Thailand since Nov 2023. We've experienced similar difficulties with retirement visas and healthcare insurance. Would you like to pm me?

I am from Singapore and staying in Udon Thani with my family and friends.

We are all self insuring ourselves as medical fees doesn't appear to be too expensive if one goes to the government hospital.

Talk with one or more insurance brokers here. They will let you know what (if any) policies are available, coverage options, costs.

Health insurance in Thailand can be challenging for a 76-year-old. Usually, basic coverage applies to 1-70-year-olds, and those who have it at 70 are covered until age 90.

I'm only 74 but I recommend AA brokers as they helped me sort out the confusion of Thai insurance plus have helped in my claims (most important)- check with them

Some thai insurance companies won't take on new customers over the age of 75 so you would need to look for one that will. Also any preexisting conditions won't be covered

Medicare is not always expensive. I am 77 and I pay $167.00 a month $3000.00 deductible.Dr. visits free. When I move to Thailand I will be seeing an increase I know. And pre ex. Won't be covered

Medicare doesn't work in Thailand

LOL I know thats why I said I would see an increase, and pre ex, won't be covered. Buying my insurance there will be more money, and cover almost nothing.

right. Good luck though. If you can find a good government hospital in your area use them for most things. Very cheap.

You realize that 1) insurance coverage is not required for non-o based on retirement visa. 2) healthcare is at least β…“ the cost of haha in USA and its in many ways better quality.

Medicare won't cover you in Thailand

It's not that expensive here. You can get 3,5,10M baht comprehensive coverage here. With no claims in 4 years my 5M baht coverage is 2,000USD per year (mid-60's).
Sharron *******
Thats not bad Mark. But since I am 77, mine may be twice that. I will have to wait and see. I do not want to spend more than $300.00 us a month. I would like $250.00 a month. I can't get any good answers from companies. I may have to wait until I get there.
Tony **********
@Sharron ******
you might consider self insuring....

What is your nationality? You are quoting the numbers in USD making one think that your parents are in US. If they are, aren’t they covered by Medicare? Health insurance for people 75 and older is pretty expensive in Thailand as well.

Medicare coverage is invalid outside of USA and its territories. Nearest is Guam.
