Hi Guys.... is it just me that's so confused over which health insurance I need in order to apply for nonO visa through thai embassy🫣. I expected nothing is cheap but im getting so many different prices...and shocked by some..am i even googling the right insurance🤷‍♂️...that's why I ask you experts here 🙏. Is it best to pay annually?... monthly?.. how long do I take this out for as my plan is to go on to a retirement visa. At 50 years old with no previous illness what is an average price?... any help would be much appreciated.... Best reply... beers on me 🍻🍻😅

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers on confusion regarding health insurance requirements for the Non-O visa in Thailand. Participants clarified that while the 90-day Non-O visa does not require insurance, the one-year Non-O A visa does necessitate specific insurance from a list of approved Thai insurance companies. Opinions vary on whether to pay for insurance monthly or annually, with many suggesting annual plans as more cost-effective. It's also important to consider pre-existing conditions, as most Thai insurance companies may exclude them. Some participants recommend purchasing travel insurance from one's home country and then switching to a local plan upon arrival.

You apply for the 90 day visa and then, once in country, open a bank account, deposit the requisite 800k baht in it and then apply for a one year extension every year.

Non O is your best option. No need for travel insurance through Thai approved Companies. Apply for Non O 90 days whilst in the UK. Travel insurance can be very expensive. Really depends on your age and health. I eventually took out annual travel insurance but cover is restricted to 55 days. Other UK banks can provide travel insurance. For Thailand Insurance providing heath cover I tried AXA Sawasdee. Alternatively try an IFA based in Thailand

Many in Thailand do the following: From their country, they buy a long-term travel insurance. Annual. They save a lot, but you have to take good care to avoid problems.

Paying for policies while here is expensive for many.

Personally, I don’t like travel insurance policies.

most Thai private insurance companies will exclude pre-existing conditions. They are profit-oriented private enterprises. If you start costing them too much, they will kick you from the plate. You must be honest and tell them about all pre-existing conditions, or you can end up paying for a few years, and then in a case of illness you will find out that they refuse payment. Nobody can tell you how good an insurance company is, before you don't get into the situation when you need them. That's a moment of awakening for many

Might be worth a look . . .

Difficult to answer as most of the post is opinions apart from what Brandon has touched on

Personally I prefer to pay monthly if the prices are the same after 12 months. That said, I pay for my car ins annually to save money

I have a pre-existing condition and as Im planning to leave the UK later this year I have emailed a company based in Thailand (3 branches) and have received a quote based on what I told them. I can give you their email if you wish to contact them? Theyre quick on the replies but note that the most important thing about insurance is their payout rate rather than the cost.

I also recently saw a YT video about a company on South Pattaya Rd who seemed decent, I could locate that and share here if you like

Hi Wayne. I would be interested in any contact details of where I could get a medical insurance quote in Thailand. Something different here. If you plan to stay in Thailand for 180 days or more within- 1st Jan to 31st Dec the Thai tax year. Are you aware of the new Tax filing requirement. If not I have a contact who may be able to advise you.

Hi Tim Im in the UK and initially wont be intending to stay in Thailand for 180+ days in a year but thanks. There are grey areas I need to analyse and will do that once Im in Thailand (finer detail)

Im no expert Im just planning for myself and offering any info Ive found as I plan. Ive contacted a company there and been given a quote that seemed reasonable and will follow up once Im in Thailand.

I can pass those details on to anyone who wants to contact them but thats where my input ends as Im nothing to do with them and have not yet been covered by them so Im not recommending them for cover, just a company that might be worth talking to for anyone looking for insurance

only when you run into an emergency, you will find out if this insurance will back you up despite your pre-existing conditions. Nothing is guraranteed. They all have a fine print

90 day non-O visa does not require insurance. 1 year non-OA requires very specific insurance only from an embassy list of Thai insurance companies

wrong page you want a non-o

@Leatrice ****************
the embassy websites all have it listed under the OA visa page
