TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa remains valid when renewing an Australian passport in Thailand. It is advised to carry both the old passport with the DTV visa sticker and the new passport. If the DTV visa was issued as a PDF from an eVisa, a photocopy of the old passport along with the PDF may suffice for travel.

If you have the DTV sticker in your old passport you just carry both for the next 5 years.

If you have a PDF visa from the evisa site you can probably get away with a photocopy of the old passport with a print of the DTV.
