TLDR : Answer Summary
A DTV visa is valid for five years from the issuance date, allowing entry at any time during that period. However, there seems to be confusion regarding a suggested three-month entry period. It's unclear whether this three-month guideline refers specifically to certain visa types or is more general advice for shorter visas.

thank you for yours answers. Nevertheless, that doesn’t answer my question. Why do they give this 3-month period given that the visa starts from the date of issuance? Reading this, I understand that if my visa is issued today and I only go there in 91 days, it could cause issues when entering Thailand. I’m more than willing to believe you, but tell me why this 3-month period is mentioned. 😕Could this statement be intended for shorter visas in général? I will try we will see 😕🤕😂

simply because they prioritize people applying within 3 months of their intended travel. And well, simply because they say so. It’s Thailand, it’s not all meant to make sense 🤷🏻‍♂️

That “should apply within 3 months” statement is used for pretty much all visas. It’s a generic/general thing. Its DTV that is unusual with its 5 years validity.

You should state a intended arrival day within 3 months from when you apply. But you don’t have to honor that. After you got the visa it doesn’t matter. 5 years as many already mentioned

this is general for all Thai visa. If you fill in a date over 3 months in the future, your application might be cancelled, so fill in a date earlier.

It is only a planned date of entry, it will not be checked when you actually enter, so you have the whole 5 year starting from the moment they approve your application.

That is so that you maximise the duration of the visa as the 5 years starts from the date of issue so why apply more than 3 months prior to travel and lose those 3 monthsd?

why.? it s simple ! I m eligible to dtv now but I cant go now ! I m afraid of laws changes in the near future.. that s why I want to do It now but I dont want to see my visa canceled if there is a max delay to respect

that's a valid reason to apply early if you fear the requirements will change or it may be cancelled, you don't mind losing some of the 5 years
