Can I stay in Thailand for just a week on my DTV visa and return months later without issues?

Hello, my DTV visa was approved recently and i was going to start using it in May but some family circumstances force me to head back sooner to Europe.

I don’t want to loose the DTV so i plan to only stay a week in TH and i don’t know when i will come back…normally 5-6 months after.

Is it a problem or i can do whatever i like since anyway my DTV is valid for 5 years ?

I wonder if an immigration agent can be surprised i only used it for one week and wait many months to come back…

Thanks all for the always good help here!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa, valid for 5 years, allows you flexibility in your travel plans. You can enter Thailand for a week now and return anytime within the visa's validity. While immigration may be surprised by a long absence, there are no restrictions preventing you from such an arrangement. Just ensure your absence aligns with the visa's regulations.

The only "rule" wirh 3 months is that applications with an INTENDED date of arrival are cancelled with no refund by most embassies. Intentions can change with or without reasons. The only thing I can think about is that in case of soft power you might get questions why you do not following the training, but even that is highly unlikely.

They might be surprised, but you’re allowed to surprise them 😊

No need to really as your DTV E–Visa is valid for 5 Years and the first time to use your DTV E–Visa to enter into Thailand could even be early 2030....

i think the first time you use it must be within 3 months from when it was approved, isn’t it ?

Participant(e) anonyme no, unless they create a new rule, but no one said this, it’s written nowhere.

5 years, multiple entry, 180 days maximum per stay, that’s is.

Anonymous participant No, I understand and have seen most Thai Embassies/Consulate say to apply within 3 months of "intended" travel, but life happens, intentions changes, plans are modified....

You have a duly issued DTV E–Visa valid for 5 years. Whether you use it to enter Thailand the same day it is first issued or use it for making entry into Thailand 4 years, 11 months after it is issued for the very first time, it is a valid Thai E–Visa and can use it whenever during its validity period as it is also multiple entry....

are you sure ? Even when i applied for it, it said i shouldn’t do it if my intention is no to come during next 3 months

Anonymous participant if you APPLY for a visa and say you're going to fly more three months in the future, tour application will be denied. This is to prevent people from making the queues at the embassies even longer bu applying too early.

But nowhere is there a rule saying you have to use your visa within three months.

Anonymous participant I see this as well when I applied to Ha Noi Embasay. I used my visa exactly 3 month after the approved day and there was no issue. I'm not sure what happens if it pass 3 months ...

i posted someone’s experience. So you are right, it is not mandatory but as you see that person was also informed wrongly about the 3 months
