What experiences have others had with obtaining the Non-Immigrant OA visa medical certificate for Thailand?

Hi everyone, I'm in the midst of applying for a non-immigrant OA visa in my home country. One of the requirements is a medical certificate stating that I have to be free from the following illnesses:

1. Leprosy

2. Tuberculosis (TB)

3. Elephantiasis

4. Drug addiction &

5. Third step of syphilis

My question is has anyone had the experience of undergoing all the tests mentioned above? Not sure how to test for leprosy. TB can be by x-ray or PCR test. The other 3 should be by blood test. Can I get my family doctor to fill out the attached form and have him certify I'm free from all the above? When I submit my application, will they want to see the x-ray and blood test results or will they just accept the doctor's certification to be good? Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses obtaining a medical certificate for the Non-Immigrant OA visa, including tests for specific illnesses and whether a family doctor can certify the applicant as healthy. Community members share their experiences, with many stating that doctors often simply sign off without extensive testing, a few suggest alternatives like telemedicine consultations, and some warn about the complexities of other visa options.

I did mine in Aussie and there was one or two tests unavailable, so my doc just wrote that they weren’t available and signed off. I applied for my Non OA at the Thai Consulate in Canberra and they didn’t have a problem with it.

We applied from Uk & went with private GP zoomdoc.com. our NHS GP receptionist was useless. The letter certifying no diseases as listed it must be officially stamped by them and signed by them you need more than just the basic certificate. Leave at least a month to apply e-visa as email will come back & forth if wrong. It takes four days to reply each time e-visa need more info. We got ours sorted & now I know how to do it not a problem in future

thanks for the info.

I have made this five years ago with my home doctor in Germany.

Easy, if he knows you for more than one or two years.

No blond test.

that's what most of the contributors said here. Thanks again.

I think that your regular doctor will be aware that you do not have any of these, my doctor in Australia just wrote out a certificate for me, no testing required

No test , your local doctor will have you’re medical history record anyway .. I did mine some 10 years ago now , and was charged £80 I think .. . Go to reception explain what’s needed …. Done ..
Hakim ************
I was quoted 400 pound for all these tests, NHS GP will not accept to sign it.
Nick ****************
Yes we all have to have that report every 12 months. As regards leprosy, they get a group of people together for a game of poker. Whoever throws their hand in first doesn’t get a clean bill of health!!!
Ken *******
They can test for TB in blood for levels. Like Brandon said sometimes they just sign if you get regular check ups

Last time I did mine it was a 2-minute appointment, a laugh, a signature, and a stamp.

Just see your GP and he will fill out that form (for a small fee)

I contacted the Thai embassy in London and wrote a letter that the doctor would sign. After a bit of back and forward they agreed they would accept.

I have been using OA for several years. I contacted several provider 3 or 4 said NO. one said 2 months and at least $2500 The easiest way is to come to Thailand and get the med certificate for a few hundred baht from any hospital, or try and get it signed by a telemedicine doctor for $75 or so.

@Ադամ *******
thank you for your insight. After hearing what some of you had said, I'm going to get my GP to provide me the signed medical letter.

At my hospital in Thailand they only do the sphylis blood test. Get blood test result in a few hours talk to doctor 2 minutes and done.
Robert ********
I just go to a private GP and they eyeball me. Those are chronic illnesses that would be evident. Of course if you go to a private hospital they will be only too glad to give you £££ worth of tests and waiting time. Nobody is going to follow up anyway.

Just come to Thailand and get a o visa then 12 month extension of stay! Don't bother with embassy too much red tape
Paul *******
@Graham ******
Almost everyone has more trouble extending a visa in country than getting a visa from outside the country. Extending a marriage visa is a huge pain compared to the comparatively simple process of applying for one at a Thai consulate abroad.
Paul *******
@Graham ******
Generally speaking, in country immigration has far more red tape.
Graham *******
@Paul ******
Not my experience!

@Graham ******
thanks Graham. I'll still opt for the OA visa because I do not need to bring in 800k into Thailand and it's a 1 year multiple entry visa. As for insurance, I'm allowed to use my existing home country medical insurance. The only thing outstanding is the medical tests hence my question here. Thanks again.
Steve **********
@Johnson ****
just get the O and have pension wired to your Thai acct

( from abroad ), no nesting of funds
Graham *******
@Johnson ****
you do not need insurance
Johnson *****

@Graham ******
I'm aware that the O visa does not require insurance but I'm not keen to bring in 800k. My existing insurance is acceptable for this application.
Graham *******
@Johnson ****
in a year u will bring in 800k anyway
Johnson *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Graham ******
when it's about to expire, I'll renew it again in the Thai consulate in my home country. No need to bring in the 800k.
Graham *******
if u bring in the 800k u can take it out of the bank and spend it
Rob **********
Just get your local GP to sign it, that’s what most people do.

Generally speaking, it's much easier to just fly into Thailand on tourist visa or visa exempt and then apply to convert to Non-O in-country. Plenty of threads on how to do it
Paul *******
@Mark *******
Generally speaking that's not a good idea..better to get the right visa before you arrive.
Johnson *****

@Mark *******
thanks for your viewpoint. But as a Malaysian, it is actually easier to apply in my country at the Thai Consulate.
Brook ********
@Johnson ****
in my opinion the OA is a terrible option. I agree with
@Mark *******
. Come to Thailand and apply for a Non O visa.

There are very few reasons not to choose this over a OA.

@Brook *******
I'm open to all options. Would appreciate it if you could provide me the pros and cons of OA and O. Thank you

Asked and answered many times here. Use the group search feature
Mark ********
@Johnson ****
There's no medical certificate or police report required for in-country applications or medical insurance for that matter (which may or may not be applicable for an ASEAN member), so not sure how, but whichever option you choose, it's always worth knowing the pros and cons of each process 😁
Johnson *****

@Mark *******
you're referring specifically to the OA visa right? What about the financial aspect? The 800k or 65k for 12 months requirement?
David ********
They just test blood and urine samples. Never heard of anything else.

If you can get your doctor to sign it then that's all that's needed. Some doctors will just sign it because it's fairly ridiculous but some will not or will want to run a bunch of tests.

If you get in touch with
@https://www.facebook.com/MedCo*******************************
Dr Donna can do this over video call.
Neil ******
@Brandon ***********
this. Some doctors will send your to a lab for blood test and others will just ask if you if "any problem when urination?" and then just sign and send you on your way. 150 thb.

thanks very much for your very clear response. In that case, I'll get my family doctor to sign off for me. Cheers!
