Is it easier to obtain a medical certificate for the O-A visa in Thailand before returning to the USA?

Hi, I'm currently in Thailand finishing up an ED visa but will return to the USA in October and submit docs to the Thai consulate in Los Angeles for a long stay/"retirement" O-A visa.

No issues meeting the requirements but saw on a post that getting the medical certificate was turning out to be more of a hassle than expected. I was wondering would it be easier to take care of the medical certificate here before I leave? Would it be accepted at the consulate in LA?

Any info very much appreciated!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is in Thailand on an ED visa and plans to apply for an O-A visa for retirement through the Thai consulate in Los Angeles. They inquire about the feasibility of obtaining the required medical certificate in Thailand rather than in the USA, following up on information that acquiring it can be troublesome. Responses from the community suggest that it is possible to get a medical certificate easily in the USA, with experiences indicating that it's often a straightforward process. Additionally, the user is advised to ensure the cancellation of their ED visa extension before departing Thailand to avoid future fines.

Ah cool! Yeah I've seen the form and sure I'll pass with flying colors hehe. I saw a post I think some people in U.K. having a not so easy time with it so just concerned. Thanks for your input!

I did mine in Germany, easy. Printed the form, gave it my doctor and collected the next day without any charge.

Getting a medical certificate in the USA was very easy for me. Just download and print the form. I brought mine to the doctors office and just left it for him to sign. I picked it up a couple of days later. I never saw the doctor. Once you see the form you will understand why a doctor would just sign it without an exam. I used mine to get my visa in LA

Please make sure you get a letter from your school to cancel any extension of stay (based on your ED visa) and take it to immigration to cancel BEFORE you leave Thailand.

The extension of stay does not automatically cancel on your departure, and even though you may return on a new visa, when you next report to immigration for 90 days report or a further extension, they may notice your previous extension of stay was not cancelled, and fine you up to 20,000 Baht for overstaying.

Just get the school to date the cancelation for the day you plan to leave Thailand, as you have to leave that day.

I will let others address your original question ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for that Glen. I was at CW recently asking for my final 30 days extension and had the letter canceling my ED visa in hand thinking I'd take care of both and was told I can't submit the letter more than 20 days before I want to leave, so gotta go back next week. ๐Ÿ™„
