What does it mean if my DTV visa application status shows 'Cancel Visa Application'?

Hi everyone,

I need some clarification regarding my DTV visa application status.

On the portal, my application is showing “Finished” with a green indicator. However, when I open the reference number, it shows “Cancel Visa Application.” I also haven’t received any email regarding this update.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Does this mean rejection, or could it be a system/technical issue?

Would really appreciate any insights. Thank you!

Update: Got this email today (26/03/2026) at 02:58 p.m. without any reason being mentioned.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is confused about their DTV visa application status, which shows "Finished" but also indicates a cancellation. They seek clarification on whether this implies their application was rejected or if it could be a technical issue. Several comments suggest that the application is most likely rejected due to incorrect personal information, with many users advising to use a visa agent for better chances of approval. A lack of communication from the embassy regarding the specific reasons for the cancellation is a common concern.

It says cancelled not rejected which means there was an error in entering your personal data such as name not exactly the same as in your passport, passport number error etc.

How do I know what was incorrect. And my application already cleared pending documents check (1) and was at processing pending approval (1) for 4 days.

You won’t know. They often don’t supply the exact reason. This is why you need to make a copy of your application so you can look it over and see if there are any errors you can identify. You can start over at this embassy or move to a new location.

The New Delhi Embassy embassy is horrible. I have personally called the embassy. A female has picked up my call who doesn’t know how to talk. I asked her whats the reason for which my visa application is cancelled and why I haven’t received any email. She said they don’t know the reason as well. And asked to search on the portal and the portal doesn't show anything.

“Finished” refers to the FINAL status of the application, not the result. It means they're no longer working on your application. Since the reference number shows “Cancel Visa Application” that's the result. In other words, you need to apply again.

Also, my application was showing pending documents check (1) and then processing pending approval (1) 4 days ago. If I made some mistake how can it reach that state. Im a bit confused as I haven’t received any email.

Thanks for the response. Is it normal to get cancelled without receiving any email expansion why I got cancelled?

apparently so. They do NOT tell you why it was rejected.

cancelled and rejected are two different decisions with visa applications (see my earlier post)

It's just not worth it to save a bit of money doing it yourself. Every day there are multiple posts such as this one. Save yourself the headache and the uncertainty and use an agent

I’d recommend applying with Issa compass- you’re investing so it doesn’t hurt to invest a bit more in order to get guaranteed approval.

does the Issa compas have some sort of guarantee? Probably not. Then why you recommend them?

Issa compass does have the guarantee. You either get the approval or 100% refund. My previous dtv was rejected in India so I’m applying again in next few weeks in Laos through Issa.

You haven't read any of the previous reports? Issa Compass guarantee success or your money back. No reports of them failing to fulfill their promise. Their fee is only $115 USD. Why risk losing $400 USD and having to pay again?

It’s 99% rejected! You could also search on what the specific statuses mean

cancel usually means you made a mistake with the biodata that you entered (mistake in name, date, etc). These are issues with what you entered into the online application that can’t be fixed/corrected. Rejection means they saw some flaw with your paperwork, that they didn’t think you proved that you met the requirements. Either way, application is no longer being reviewed.

I'm unsure if you're talking about a selection to manually cancel your application, or if your visa application has been canceled. Did you get an email stating that your application has been canceled? Check your spam folder etc.

Thats the problem with dtv! They never give you a reason. The way to get the visa is to submit a new application. I also believe if they needed something that didn’t match the paperwork- they would request additional documents

Sometimes an Embassy will request additional information. Sometimes they won't and simply reject the application. They say they won't give reasons for cancellation or rejection. However, some have done so. How to move forward once it's definite an application has been cancelled/rejected depends on whether the applicant wishes to apply again. If so, using an agent such as Issa Compass would prevent further failure. If not and the applicant decides to live/work elsewhere, then submitting a 'chargeback' request to their bank/credit card company is the way to obtain refund of their application fees.

Things with embassies in India is weird. No emails and calls work. By using an agent , I can at least be sure my money won’t be wasted but that’s just how I choose to move forward.
