Why was my DTV application randomly cancelled after three months of waiting?

Need help/advice: Has anyone had their DTV application randomly CANCELLED after a 3-month wait?

Hey everyone, looking for some insights here because I’m completely baffled.

Here’s my timeline with the embassy:

* April 7th: Submitted my final requested documents. Then, weeks of complete silence.

* June 4th: Couldn't wait any longer, so I emailed the embassy for an update. They replied on the 5th telling me to just "wait patiently."

* June 11th: The embassy unexpectedly emailed me, asking for my exact travel dates and if I had booked my flights yet. I replied saying my planned travel date was June 20th.

* June 23rd: Status was still stuck on "Pending." I sent another follow-up email but received no response.

* June 25th: I logged into the e-Visa portal only to find my application status changed to "Cancelled".

I wasted nearly 3 full months just to get a silent cancellation. There were absolutely zero spelling mistakes or typos in my name or personal info. To make it worse, I never received any official rejection/cancellation email explaining *why*.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Does "Cancelled" mean I can reapply immediately at a different embassy (like Kuala Lumpur or Vientiane), or will this leave a bad record? Any advice would be highly appreciated!
Summary so far
A user experienced a troubling situation with their DTV visa application, which was cancelled after a three-month waiting period without any official explanation. They had submitted all required documents, communicated with the embassy multiple times, and then discovered the cancellation on the e-Visa portal without receiving any rejection notice. The community shared advice and concerns, discussing typical issues with embassy processes in China, suggesting alternative application locations, and questioning the user's disclosures about nationality and embassy applied at.

Could be. Also likely to be our resident troll. He rotates between his three favourite ways of dissing the DTV; 1) Delays and rejection of applications, 2) Fear of questioning upon entry & 3) Difficulties in opening a Thai bank account.

They just emailed you asking for flight details?

Seems odd, they usually email you a request for further info and you have to upload whatever document they wanted. Also to get my non b i had to provide a flight number in order to submitbthe application... might be that.

Exactly. It was precisely because they emailed me to ask about my travel dates and flight bookings that made me feel totally misled.

Why does it say "Cancel" instead of "Cancelled"? Are you sure it's actually cancelled or is there a button somewhere to "cancel" it?

You should get an email if it was actually rejected 🤷🏼‍♂️

You say you entered all rhe text etc. correctly but did you disable autocorrect/autofill when you uploaded your passport as this can overwrite manual entries and introduce errors to your "correct" entries?

It's really hard to believe how thorough you were when you don't state your passport nation, Embassy you applied at, or the entry scheme you chose. Typically canceled means errors in your bio data page entries. The OCR reads the passport picture biodata and fills in the appropriate fields, often making mistakes that need to be manually corrected before saving and submitting.

Yes it happened to me exactly the same in China and I latter knew few more many people who had the same experience there.

Basically They just let you apply the application and pay the money then wait for 3 months until the system automatically cancel your application. I tried emailing and contacting them by phone and once finally when the lady finally picked up the phone , she was very rude and simply said she don’t know anything and that the application time in the system is over and hang up on my face…

Wasted 3 months waiting and my money with out even getting a proper rejection.

Well one of the stipulations of the application is to remain where you filed pending approval. Traveling into the country could probably be considered non-compliant to that stipulation. I agree that it was a very long application period without movement.

Where did you apply? You can reapply Immediately but it's best to take some time to review your application. Laos is a much better option to reapply than KL.

Thanks for the info! To clarify, I am applying as a remote worker, not the Soft Power route.

Between Vientiane (Laos) and Jakarta, which one is better and faster for remote workers right now?

Anonymous participant Vietnam has rejected a lot of Chinese applicants based on a significant number deported from Thailand on misused ED visas who applied for DTVs in Vietnam. You can find posts in the threads about this Inc from Chinese applicants. Jakarta and Laos are known to be "friendlier" to Chinese applicants, Jakarta is taking longer to approve than before and you must have 9mths SP course to apply there.
