How long does it take for the DTV (Soft Power – Muay Thai) visa to be approved in Hanoi?

Question:

Hey everyone, I’m currently in Hanoi waiting on my DTV (Soft Power – Muay Thai) to be approved. I submitted all my documents and paid the fee on June 4th, and as of June 6th, the application is marked as pending approval.

I know things likely slowed down because of the public holidays and a backlog, but it still feels like it’s taking a while. I’m aware the embassy doesn’t respond to emails, but has anyone had any luck going there in person to check on the status or get an idea of how much longer it might take?

Hanoi’s been great, but I’m more than ready to get back to Thailand. Appreciate any advice—thanks in advance!

Thanks for your post. I’m in the exact same boat with you. Fee paid on June 4th, no additional docs requested, changed to pending approval on June 6th, still waiting. Looks like we may be in the same patch, let keep each other posted.

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

Participante anônimo I just got rejected. Did you send a 3 month bank statement with 500k or 6 months? I did everything that people suggested here and it was rejected

Anonymous participant 551 What did you apply under? Did you have 500k in your account for at least 3 months? Passport Nationality?

Anonymous participant 551 I am so sorry to hear this. Try soft power in any other place.

Anonymous participant 551 that doesn't seem right I applied may 26 got approved early june
Anonymous ******************
משתתף אנונימי ‏662‏ It says "Waiting for approval." I'm patiently waiting — I don't have anything else to do.
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant 551 that is way beyond the the timing people expérience in Hanoi and also it looks like some people who applied after you already received a confirmation. I would suggest to send an email or go there. All the best, I know how it feels to wait like this. I hope it works out for you 🤗at one point I took a flight to da nang to chill. And by the way no need to open the website all the time to check your application. You will get an email when done l. I was doing this all the time and it was driving me nuts

משתתף אנונימי ‏662‏ I'm in Hoi An – it's a great place to spend time.

From the comments in the group, I understand they don't respond to emails.

I did the whole process through an agent. He said he has other clients who are still waiting.
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant 551 good choice. Wish you all the best. They don't reply but they may read them. I sent an email but I don't know if it helped processing it. You live in koh panghan ?

I just had my visa approved in Hanoi Last week. It Took 3 business days Total and they requested a new picture so i think it could have been faster if my picture was ok. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU PREPARE YOUR PAPERWORK. They had a couple of holidays so that affected me a bit . Once it passes the pending document check it should get approved after 2-5 business days unless the adjudicating officer finds something really wrong with your papework ( really rare in Hanoi) . Im going to attach a copy of my application so you can have an idea of the timeframe. My wife is currenly doing the DTV dependent visa. She applied this tuesday 2 days ago and yesterday it went into pending approval. Dependent visas not require income like the main aplicants they do require 500k but once they see is there its all good from there. Me as a business owner had to send a lot morr paperwork to justify the income. Maybe this is why her status change so fast. I think they do approvals here in batches . From what i have seen Sundays and Wednesdays is when the adjutications take place in Hanoi. I anticipate your approval will come this sunday and lets hope my wife also gets that day. I sent them emails and none of them work 🙏

thanks for the detailed message. Much appreciated 👍🏻

I don't understand why all these so called digital nomads are in such an extreme hurry to get the DTV approved. It should be possible to work everywhere.

When that is not possible just apply for the visa where you can stay longer, like at home.

it’s not always just about working online — for many of us, it’s the quality of life we’ve chosen in Thailand. That’s why we go through this process to apply for a visa to stay long term. I don’t see how it’s a problem to want to return sooner rather than later.
Konstantin ******
Anonymer Teilnehmer you’re waiting only a single week for now, what do you expect? Just calm down
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer DTV is not a long term visa, just a tourist visa, which you normally apply for before you travel. Then you apply in time before you travel, and the waiting will not be a problem.

Mine was changed to "pending approval" on 5June and got approved 11June just right before I was preparing to go ask at embassy.

Anonymous participant relax and enjoy your time in Hanoi, you'll get an email when it's approved

I called, emailed, and went in person. They want nothing to do with us.

Wait for electronic response is the reply you will receive.

Your application went from Pending document check to Pending Approval very quickly. No extra documents requested?

They approve in batches as there is only one judication official with the authority to approve so stay calm and hopefully you’ll get a notification soon. They do process and grant approvals over the weekend too.

Anonymous participant I know how stressful it is. I just got back to Thailand, and had 7 days of sleepless nights and anxiety in Hanoi haha. If it offers any comfort that 180 days stamp upon reentering Thailand makes it worth it.

A little agony during the waiting process but well worth it once approved. Good luck with your application, I know the waiting sucks. 🙏
