Hey dudes, my immigration is miles away so I thought I'd ask before I take the trip.

I'm heading overseas next week and hear I need to fill in a form and pay so that I can retain my Visa when I return. Anyone have any information regarding how easy this is to obtain, cost, waiting time and where I can get it? Also what do I need to show them.

Regards.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When seeking a re-entry permit in Thailand, you can either obtain it at an airport or a local immigration office. At the airport, simply request the re-entry permit before departure, which usually takes about 15 minutes. When going through an immigration office, you'll need to fill out the TM8 form, provide a copy of your passport and entry stamp, a photo, and pay a fee of 1,000 baht for a single entry or 3,800 baht for a multiple entry. It's recommended to plan for additional time, especially if you're at the airport. Be sure to inform immigration upon your return to avoid being issued a visa on arrival.

I got a reentry permit a couple of months ago, BKK. Took 10 minutes. It was early and not many people at the airport.

Personally I'd say getting a re-entry permit at your local immigration is the way to go.

yes but the OP said his office is miles away. That may be 20 minutes or a 4 hour drive. Just pointing out that if it’s the latter then they can get at an airport.

even at a 4 hour drive I'd rather have it in my passport than mess around at the airport. (Are any provinces 4 hours drive from one side to the other?)

"Messing around at the airport" takes about 15 minutes. I've done it many times. Sure beats the hell out of a trip to immigration!

figuratively. Although I’ve seen posts from some people who have a horrendous time getting to their immigration office. I’d agree that in many instances, getting one before you travel is better but if it’s say a 2 hours drive each way to your local office then I’d prefer to get to the airport an hour early and get it done there.

Just did this from CNX to Singapore. Allow an hour extra time, in addition.

Make sure when you return to Thailand immigration acknowledges your existing Visa and they don’t give you 45 days visa on arrival, or whatever they default to.

If going to an immigration office you’d need to fill out the TM8 form. Copy of your passport, copy of your entry stamp a photo and 1,000 baht for a single entry or 3,800 for a multiple entry.

If you’re going via an airport, you can get the re-entry permit there before you leave.
