Hey guys a bit of advice please.

How does a reentry permit work?

I just tell them when I'm leaving and returning and I get a permit for that time period right?

When they stamp me back in on my return do I get a stamp for 30 days? I'm just a bit confused to how it works as I'm trying to work out how long I need to get covid insurance for on my return?

I have a non b and a work permit.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A reentry permit in Thailand is essential for maintaining your visa status when leaving the country. To obtain one, visit an immigration office with your passport, necessary documents, and a fee (1,000 THB for single entry, 3,800 THB for multiple entry). Upon returning, your reentry permit allows you to retain your immigration status, but if you leave without it, you will need a new visa to re-enter. The length of your stay upon return is generally determined by your COVID insurance or the duration of your visa's extension of stay.

could never understand what a reentry permit is if you have a visa. Is it just an extra tax?

remember all extensions and visas inside the country are sold as "no entry" <-meaning they don't have a re-entry permit "built in" like visas from consulates do (either single or multiple) and that's because you're already IN thailand when you get the visa/extension issued inside the country so if you want to leave/come back you need to buy a re-entry permit

If you come back to reenter with a reentry stamp does immigration go through all your insurance paperwork again if you are on an o/a visa extension of stay stamp???? Wondering aloud. Thanks

It shouldn't matter because to get the extension of stay you'd have to show insurance (unless you were grandfathered in).

just adding to Benjamin’s information, the counter at CM is through international check in and security, and immediately on your left there. I give myself an additional 45 mins/1 hr but usually extremely quick so long as you have all your papers and correct cash.

If you are flying ‘out of hours’ for the CM officer, there is a 24 hour desk at BKK.

Depends where you're legally flying out of though; if you cross immigration at CM, you can not get a re-entry permit at BKK

A re-entry permit keeps a person's "admitted to" stamp alive when they leave Thailand. If a person leaves Thailand without a re-entry permit, the "extension of stay" or "admitted to" will be invalidated, and they will have to return to Thailand using another type of visa/ visa exempt.

>I just tell them when I'm leaving and returning and I get a permit for that time period right?

No, you will need to go to any immigration office and purchase a re-entry permit. I believe you need the following:

1. Your passport and a copy of:

a. The data “picture” page.

b. The most recent entry stamp or extension of stay.

c. The departure card (“TM 6”) stapled in the passport.

2. The Application for Re-entry Permit (“TM 8”) form (acquired from the immigration office)

3. 2x passport photos.

4. 1K THB for a single entry re-entry permit, or 3,800THB for a multiple entry re-entry permit.

You can purchase these permits at some international airports, like BKK as well.

>I have a non b and a work permit.

I *DOUBT* you have a non-B visa. I believe you have a stamp that says "Extension of Stay Admitted to..."

>as I'm trying to work out how long I need to get covid insurance for on my return?

I *believe* you need the COVID-19 insurance for the certificate of entry, and the length of the time you're allowed in Thailand will be the length of your COVID-19 insurance OR the length of the remaining time on your "extension of stay" stamp, whichever one is less.

It is stamped when you return to Thailand if its a single entry . If you don't return it will stay valid until your visa expires
