TLDR : Answer Summary
You can get a re-entry permit from the immigration office at any time prior to your departure. The cost for a single entry is 1,000 THB, while a multiple entry costs 3,800 THB. The permit will be valid until your permitted stay date in Thailand.

Correct, on entry Immigration stamped your passport with an Admitted until ../../.. date. If you use a re-entry permit you can leave and come back and you will get that same date on return.

ah! I understand, if you have a single entry visa then you can go out and come back in without losing the single entry if you get a re-entry permit? ๐Ÿ™

a re-entry permit allows you to re enter Thailand again and get the same admitted to stay date as you had in your passport before leaving.
