Got rejected twice for the Thailand DTV (Workcation, software developer):

• 12/25 in HCMC: misunderstood the financial proof requirement

• 03/26 in Vientiane: some issue with income documentation, even though my balance was well above 500k THB

Anyone here also rejected twice and got approved on the third try? What did you change?
Answer summary
The original poster (OP) has faced two rejections for the Thailand Digital Work Visa (DTV), primarily due to misunderstandings around financial proof and income documentation. Community members suggest that improving the financial documentation is crucial, emphasizing the need for clear income verification over just bank balance proof. Recommendations are made to either reapply with stronger documentation or to consider consulting a visa agency for assistance. Additionally, some advise applying from the home country to avoid potential misunderstandings due to local embassy practices. Overall, ensuring all financial and work-related paperwork is accurately presented seems vital for a successful application.

Just hire agency, looks like you throwing money out of the window… Issa compass has pre approval process on the app and money back guarantee. Service itself was like 180$

You already wasted 3 or 4 times more

So many get rejected in Vietnam for "misunderstood" paperwork. Where are you from? Go home and apply from your home embassy. Your local embassy is more likely to understand your paperwork.

Figure out what you did wrong.

For starters: showing a balance above 500k is not INCOME VERIFICATION.

To show how much income you have, you have to show your INCOME, not your SAVINGS.

Those rejected once or multiple times, welcome get it approved at once. Zero rejections. Even done a case with 4 rejections. Welcome most challenging cases. 🫡

Anonymous participant from your post details you were rejected both times because of not meeting the financial requirements. Get your financial requirements in order, and apply again. No need for any agent.

I think the OP clearly needs an agent to make sure the application doesn’t have holes. Already blown two application fees. Someone with questionable documentation or poor understanding of the process should use an agent to reduce risk of rejection.

My application was easy as I could follow the instructions. I applied in the western country I reside in. Don’t have any dodgy travel history. Had a bank balance well above the requirement. A portfolio that included public evidence of my work.

Thailand is hella strict now after all the early adopters. Hire visa agents to cross your eyes and dot your tees

Did you get to the interview stage in vientiane? Or did you get rejected before ?

I don't think the number of rejections matters as much as why you keep getting rejected.

You need to have more than 500k for 3 months straight before applying at most embassies.

It sounds more like there is a problem with the finances you are providing to show your income from work, not your personal finances. You should show your invoices and match them up with receipts of the payments in your bank account. Also helps if you can show you are registered to pay tax, tax returns are even better.

You should also provide a letter stating you won't work with any Thai entities or clients inside Thailand.

Apply again via soft power you are still allowed to work remotely. This is from a SP application.

I think it’s a bad idea to rely upon one screenshot from one consular office. Keep in mind that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had no role regarding work authorization within Thailand and they may be providing erroneous information.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 the arguments about if you can work or not is moot. The intended purpose on the application will only be relevant to the approval of the visa. Once the visa is approved, rules around what you can do while on the visa in Thailand should only be the core such as 180 day stays. The remote work is part of the visa. Only the intended purpose would be scrutinised for a soft power on entry if someone is unlucky.

Reality is that Thai government will not know if you are working for company Z in Europe doing remote work on a computer.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 So you're saying they don't know what they're doing and are issuing visas incorrectly?

ThoughtfulSalamander8389 I can’t help but think some of these rejected cases are more about the applicants other interactions with Thailand and the quality of the case they put forward. It seems to me that a DTV visa application is a bit like a job application. You can write how good you are for the position but if there are gaps or cracks in your story you will be overlooked.

Pretty sure the people reviewing cases will see a persons prior Thai travel history and when someone from a higher risk country with a recent history of staying in Thailand for extended periods happens to apply from a country that may have more to do with its proximity to Thailand than the applicants normal place of residence. It just smells of someone with an intent to use the visa for extended stay in Thailand and not the purpose for which they say they want to enter.

I think having a passport or residency from outside Asia and applying from a neighbouring Asian country is a red flag and you need to present a solid case without any history of multiple tourist stays with border runs.

ThoughtfulSalamander8389 Yes they will. I don't recommend applying in Vietnam again. Go to Laos or Manila and apply via soft power maybe.

Johnny boy we have been over this a million times ….

That’s like saying you can’t marry a Thai on a retirement visa …. Or retire when married to a Thai.

The visa is a qualification route.

It’s like saying if you qualified under workcation you can’t go to cooking schools , Muay Thai or get medical treatment 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

And it explicitly states you can't work remotely if you applied via soft power for a DTV?
John **********

DTV_BegPecker there is an express provision in the law for the government to provide exceptions, it doesn't restrict that to government departments
DTV_Be*******

but that argument doesn’t make sense. You state that “the definition of work is very tightly defined in Thailand, it makes no distinction between local and remote work,” but that the DTV for workcation allows for a exemption to this strict definition. Any definition of labor would be controlled by the Department of Labor. The DTV is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is responsible for visas. You really think the Department of Labor would give hand the power of issuing exemptions over to a completely different government agency? 100% no! Therefore, it is more likely that the Departmenr of Labor doesn’t see digital nomad (online work) as work covered by them at all and therefore MoFA is using it as only one pathway for a visa, not issuing you approval (exemption) to work

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 it's nothing like the same, you can come in visa exempt and go to a cooking school. The definition of work is very tightly defined in Thailand, it makes no distinction between local and remote work, but does allow for government entities to provide specific exemptions to the law. In the case of the DTV this exemption is provided by the Workation route only.
